My son (about to turn 5) has been taught about camping in pre-school, saw my tent in a hunting season picture at my house, and now he wants to go "real camping".

Problem is - I'm new to San Antonio, and have no idea where to go camping in a tent. I want to take him someplace that is semi-primative - it's his first time, so we ain't gonna try sleepin' under the stars or nothing like that. Just a nice clean place fairly close to civilization that we can pitch a tent, light a fire and roast some marshmellows.

Also... probably shouldn't do this for a few months.. huh? Wouldn't want to sweat to death in our sleep. Can anyone recommend the best time to go? In VA, I always went early to mid fall or late spring / early summer.

All the best,
Glenn
