Little Darlings in the neighborhood ...

More than 60 vehicles in my neighborhood were vandalized last night. The officer that stopped by this morning was driving around and stopping anywhere he saw vandalism. He said they had 3 in custody for burglary of a motor vehicle, but didn't know if they were involved with the vandalism. My Yukon is normally parked in the garage at night, but has been sitting oout the last 3 days while we took down Christmas decorationss and had them stored in my side of the garage.

I told the little woman that her's gets to sit out tonight ...

Oh how I'd love to catch these little maggots doing something like this ...

Reggie, my professional opinion is that your vehicle was wasn't vandalized. The suspects damaged it during the process of burglarizing it, doesn't take a genius officer to realize this.

    That Sucks!!!!!!!

It's happened to me TWICE First time, they cleaned house! Got away with approx. $5k worth of stereo, weapons, and misc. items. The truck was in my driveway about 20 Ft. from my bedroom window. (Brave little bastages)
Second time, was for the kicks I assume. Nothing was stolen on round 2

I thought I heard a noise outside about 1:30 and started to get up and check it out. However with the wind blowing, I figured it was something on the deck blew over. That window in the bottom picture is above the jacuzzi tub in our master bath, so that could have been what I heard. funny thing is that my company car was sitting in the street adjacent to the driveway and they didn't touch it.

The officer that came by this morning said it appeared they may have been shooting marbles out of a paintball gun ...

    The glass alone is $850

Re: Little Darlings in the neighborhood ... (Tx Champ)

My second episode was done with a golf club, the police said they broke OVER 80 that evening in my area

I even heard it happen as they sped away. I got dressed, grabbed back up and gave chase.............I was WAY too late as they were gone.

The first offense were pro's. The DOUBLE set of rubber surgical gloves were left laying in my driveway for insult

Man, Reggie....that's awful!! Did they take anything out of the car? That's a lot of damage not to have been done up close and personal.

I only had one episode.....got up one morning and my back passanger window was shattered and a beer bottle was laying on the back seat where they threw it.

No, there really wasn't anything to get. I keep a small bag of tools in the back and my XM Roady were about all that was in it. It was 8-9' from the curb to the back of the truck. The cop said it looked like they were apparently shooting marbles or ball bearings out of a paintball gun. I didn't find anything like that when I cleaned up, but I figure they shot it with something from the street.

On the news last night, they said over 100 cars in South Abilene. there were over 65 in my neighborhood.

Darn Reggie, I sure hate to see that. I seen the news last night but never thought about it being in your neighborhood or you personally. Sorry Man. Just don't know what to think of these hoodlums today. Don't know what kind of high they get from destroying other peoples property.

WOW!! I was out of town and heard about this, sure was scared to turn the corner and see if any of my cars were hit. I guess they went down your street instead. I think when they catch the kids that did it they shold make them work for the people that they hit until they have covered 1 and1/2 the cost to the people they hit in yard work, trash hauling, car washing, etc. ANYTHING but letting the parents write a check for the damages, or a little slap on the hand and time spent in juvie!

Re: Little Darlings in the neighborhood ... (katyag)

My neighborhood (in VA) got hit a few years back by some little hoodlums like the ones that hit your neighborhood. In mine, the little blankety-blanks took screwdrivers to over 50 vehicles, removing all the emblems. They got my Dodge Ram truck for the "D" and "E" in DODGE on the tailgate, and got my wifes BRAND NEW Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (a few weeks old) for the "J" off of Jeep on both the front and rear of the truck. Scratched the paint on both vehicles getting the emblems off. There was even a white Jaguar that got hit up the street from our house. The neighborhood was in a uproar. We actually found out who did it, and the cops came by and stopped at the kids houses for quite some time. Then... nothing. We asked about what happened to the local police, and was told it was "taken care of" WHAT???? How can it be "taken care of"??? We spent over a hundred dollars on emblems alone for the three sets we had to buy for the front and rear of my wife and my vehicles. So... at a "guesstimate" - 50+ vehicles at $100 a pop, just for emblems alone = $5K +. And that's not addressing the paint issues. We were quoted $500 to repaint my wifes truck in two spots, and $250 for my tailgate. So we were looking at $750 in paint jobs for two vehicles. Add that up for the other 50 affected vehicles and see what the cost is there - I know we are well into $25, 30, 40, 50 thousand or more in vehicle paint jobs just in my neighborhood alone! One man's Dodge Ram up the street from me had ALL of his emblems removed with a screwdriver - both doors, both front fenders, tailgate. His whole truck (new too) was scratched from front to back.

The cops never did a thing in my neighborhood. Then, a short time later, I saw they were having a "fund drive" for the cities police department. Geez! Think I donated a dime?

I hate little hoodlums like that. Basically, they "got away with it".

Sorry to rant, and sorry to hear about what happened in your neighborhood.

    All the best,
    Glenn

Re: Little Darlings in the neighborhood ... (BMC TR-20PD-X)

That's probably why there are little hoodlems like that --- because we don't have police departments that will prosecute the little jerks. From the parents who do nothing to the police who do nothing---what do we expect??

Yeah, I think they used Randy Ave. to cross from Western Plains to Wagon Wheel or visa versa. The two story house on Randy at Bridal Path got 2 vehicles hit.

It is not the police departments responsibility to prosecute, it the job of the city attorney, county attorney or district attorney depending on the loss value and location of the offense. They can only work with the info that is provided to them by the reporting police agency. A poorly investigated crime will likey result in a case not being prosecuted.
