Here's what I'm thinking about doing. Since I'm relatively new to that area and haven't quite learned the ins and outs of Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn...I'm thinking about fishing the ABA tournaments as a non-boater to get my feet wet tournament fishing in this area. I have a boat, but I'm not confident enough at this time to go it on my own...plus risk taking a non-boater with me and not be able to put us both on fish.
My question is... any of you guys fish the ABA's that fish on Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn? What's the turnout like, and would a non-boater be at risk being able to fish (more non-boaters show up than boaters??) I know this can be a problem with the BFL's, but back where I moved from it wasn't a problem with the ABA's. Next, what do the regular boaters (guys that fish the ABA's regularly) think about non-boaters? Where I came from it was a mixed bag...some guys didn't mind taking someone out that they didn't know...while others felt threatened by someone they didn't know possibly learning their honey-holes and spilling his/her guts to everybody else.
If the boaters aren't very receptive to non-boaters...I'll just keep plugging away on my own until I get enough confidence to fish them as a boater.
