? correct spark plug/XD oil setting

serial # 05114402,model# E225DHLSOC 2005 etec 225-new dressed powerhead in 2006. had 3 year maintenance done(fuel filter, water pump, lower unit gear lube, spark plugs, engine check) noticed spark plugs were QC10PEPA but spark plug chart says QC10WEP-iridium plugs and engine changed to XD 50 mix-is this correct spark plug and why change to XD 50 setting - it has been on XD 100 setting since the beginning.

That don't sound right. The E-TECS are running the new plugs as they have the right thermostats I thought. Might be worth consulting your dealer about?
Your engine is an HO and should be running the xd-100 according to what I've heard.

If you read the spark plug chart on the top of this forum, it appears the plug changed numbers.(they may be the same plugs) I would check with your dealer to make sure.

I'm sure the experts will chime in on this, but I have a 2006 225HO and my dealer said that they changed the setting to XD-50 to make sure the motor was getting enough oil when running the XD-100 or XD-50. I know that does not make sense, but they have had less problems and all the new motors are locked in on this setting and can not be changed. I have had no major problems with mine and I am over 150 hours on it. Hope this helps..

I referred to the chart at the heading of this forum and found the QC8WEP gapped at .028 as my dealer told me last week over the phone. HOWEVER "the" chart made no mention of them being Iridium. I have been told that the factory now has OK'd the use of iridium plugs. Odly enough the original plugs that are in my engine now have "NO" number designation or manufacturer name printed or embossed on them anywhere. They also have an unusual looking almost pointed electrode in the center. These may in fact be the iridium plugs. I am taking it in to the dealer for a recall (software change) tomorrow if I have a chance I'll ask what is the difference. I believe Mercury has used these plugs for some times..........
I would NOT stop using the 100% synthetic XD100 oil................G

The " W " in the plug number means Iridium

My bad, the dealer did the right thing on the oil setting. All HO's have been set to the tcw-III rating but BRP still wants you to run the xd-100 oil. I still don't understand why they changed the plugs to the old designation.

i talked to the dealer about the spark plugs, he called back after three days and said they put the wrong plugs in should be QC10WEP. now a return trip-more time more gas. you think a dealer would know what they are doing but no the customer has to correct them
