Old Hickory help for a visitor....

I will be visiting the famed Old Hickory Lake this weekend. We were to have a guide trip in the morning and then we were going to fish the rest of the day on our own.... Our guide had the bad luck of blowing a head gasket and he is out... so we are still coming to fish and have never been on this lake before.

We are not fishing a tournament and have no plans to fish one... just looking for some help to have a good day of fishing. Please instant message or email me at ken.mohr@optum.com if you don't want to post.... Thanks in advance and if you ever visit Rough River Lake or Nolin Lake where I'm at most of the time... I would be happy to reciprocate with info.....

If you have a boat why not offer to use your boat with the guide? Just a thought. Also, send an IM to Josh Counce (fiddlefarter) I think he is on OH some.

Best advice I can give you is good luck. I have not been having very good luck at all. I went last week and the water was in the upper 80's. We caught a few on cranks and senko. I don't like to c-rig or fish with a jig very much. Might have been able to scrounge some more that way but not sure. For sure get in touch with Josh (fiddlefarter) or HeavyD or Duane Harper. They fish pretty regular, I think. Might be able to give you some more help.

Thanks for the good word guys... but I have only been 3 times in the past month and a half. And only once during the day (last Sat.) I caught a couple on drops, had a 4.5 and a 3.5 and a few dinks but they were all from the same 30 yard stretch. Fished around a couple other drops before I was chased by lightening and had 1 or 2 bites on a big worm but that's all. We fished tournaments last night and tonight. Last night, only had 2 keepers. We zeroed tonight all we could find was a few short fish. My partner had really been catching them (at night) last week and the week before too. We just couldn't find them again. Fished the same drop I caught the good one's on Sat 4 different times and have only caught 1 short fish on it

I just haven't been enough to have any ideas that might help. Sorry.

I'd try to find another guide or go to Bass Pro and buy a tube and some swimmin' britches and pull each other around

Hey, thanks for the help. The suggestin about my boat was thought about... we decided to take this opportunity to see the lake and get some seat time there and might get a bit more out of our guide trip when we get it rescheduled.

It is nice all you guys responded to someone from the kentucky board. Again, I will help if any of you head up this way.

Have been out the past 2 afternoons and have been catching quite a few 14-16" fish just no big ones. Fished a tournament last night and got 2nd with only 8.5 and 12 won it so the fishing is definitely not on fire right now. Ledges have been hit or miss since we haven't had any rain lately and they aren't pulling any water. I you don't know where any of the brush is on the ledges it may be hard to catch em. Best advice I can give you is don't be afraid to fish shallow (3ft or less) wherever you find bait. If there isn't bait around don't even bother fishing. Brush hogs and worms have produced the best.

We've been slaying them the last two weeks, but last night they were gone. Best stringer was on a buzzbait out of one school he found feeding at dusk. Everything else was scattered. If it rains, go back to the main river ledges with a c-rig and big worm. Look for hard, rough bottom or shell beds. Otherwise, best of luck.
