Are there any issues w/new ETECs?

Guys, Im getting ready to put some serious money into a new 225 Etec HO. Are there any issues with these new motors I need to know about? Its been a really hard dicision for me to decide to repower verses trade or sell it all. Thanks for any advice you could give me. Im putting it on an 01 205 Ranger.

I just put one on my 84' 392. It's like night and day difference. I wish I had done it sooner.

Re: Are there any issues w/new ETECs? (AZ River Rat)

Over the last 3 years we have had 31 Evinrude motors, 9 in 2006, 11 in 07 and 08 for a water ski show team in WI. In the course of those three years we have put over 2300 hours on these engines combined.

Our duty cycle is certainly different than yours but we have had one problem in all these engines - a faulty oil pump sensor that gave persistent code 38, no oil pulses detected in manifold. This was right out of the box and was taken care of immediately under warranty.

We have had small blocks, big blocks, 115s, HOs and regulars and have never been let down. Not one plug fouled. Biggest thing is as the experts will point out - no fuel restrictions, good oil, properly propped so the engine will run efficiently in its recommended. These motors need good battery connections that are clean and tight. Proper engine height and water pressure is also key to long life. We've had alot of water in the fuel up here in WI this year so good water separating fuel filter in the boat in addition to the under cowl filter is helpful.

We turn our motors over often so I can't speak to total overall longevity, but we put 100-200 hours on each of them before selling them and they have been virtually flawless for us in our application. I do personally own a 2006 250DPLSD that now has 390 hours on it and other than the deflector pin update it has never been back in. I am performing the 3 yr/300 hour service on it right now and everything looks perfect.

If you can get one and have a good dealer to work with who will set it up properly and take care of any issues you have, I think you'll be thrilled with the performance.

    Regards,
    Erich
