    Fished the River today

Fished with a friend on the Potomac today. Really nice to fish the river without a gazillion boats all over the place. We saw about 5 or 6 bassboats today. Wouldn't it figure that 2 boats came right in on us....only on the Potomac...30+ miles of river to fish and they still had to fish the same stretch of bank as us. Oh well, I don't let it bother me anymore, just amusing. We caught a few in Mattawoman on wood early on the beginning of the outgoing tide. Water temps around 48-49. 1 on blk/blue jig and 2 on chatterbaits. We didn't find anymore till the early stages of the incoming tide on some pilings on the VA side. Had 3 on chatterbaits there as well. Water warmed to 50. River is in pretty descent shape, small amount of debris still floating. Mattawoman grass is not completely gone, actually still a little too much to fish wood effectively with chatterbait. Water clarity was 2'+. Virginia side was a little more stained (1' visibilty). Beautiful day to be out with a good friend and catch a few bass, there won't be too many more like this one.

Getting warm out for sure. In the 60's all the way to mid pool three where I stopped.

Fishing was off, not as many as usual. Still caught quite a few, just not the activilty you usually see.

You can tell the temps have come up more than 10 degrees in a week.

James, those guys didnt know what to do so they figured you did and they chose to stop and fish..It is ONLY on the Potomac that fishing courtesy is NON-existant. I wish BASS/FLW would impose the 50ft rule again then some ignorant TX fishermen could start getting used to giving a little room again. I alway can tell a Potomac fishermen when you go other places to fish.

It's not just the Potomac. Had someone cut me off on Gaston at the Federation Fall Classic in October and he wasn't from the Potomac.

NC registration on the boat, so I don't think he is a Potomac regular, but the fishing is good so he may make the drive on a regular basis.

Theres no way FLW is enforcing it. All you have to do is watch these pro's when tour comes to town, there stacked right on top of one another.

The sad thing about it is, it shouldn't take a rule to keep people curtious. When I come up on a spot and someone is already there, If I stay, I will pull in far behind where they are, never in front of them. It's just like coming up to a door and not letting the other person in first, either they had no parental guideance or their parents were losers . I still would rather fish the Potomac on the busiest day than anywhere else. Nothing tickles me more than to wack a few right behind one these guys.(like we did Saturday ).

I hear you. At least you had a good day of fishin in late Nov. It never used to be this way but somehow it seems that bass fishermen on the Potomac just feel its there right to be ignorant. I love the boats that just idle right up to you and cast around you like your in there way and its your fault your in there way even though you were there first. There shouldnt be a rule but unless the minset changes it will only get worse,,surprised we havent heard of more scuffles on the water over this ignorant practice..
