    Leesylvania rip-rap

Quick question, I keep seeing stuff on the rip-rap located in this area... where is it? I have a club tourney on the river on wednesday the 1st, I haven't been on the river since late July and would like to try and hit this area if at all possible. Not trying to scope any secrets LOL.

    Thanks,
    Eric

    Re: Leesylvania rip-rap (MeBassn)

Eric it's not secret, it's a community hole. Most of the time if you launch from Lee's it's off limits so it doesn't matter. I know there were a hell of alot of fish released there this weekend. The rip rap are right in front of the launch area, they are there to protect the ramp from waves. Water there right now if very dirty. I saw several guys from other TX's fishing there while waiting to put the boat on the trailer and never seen one of them catch a fish. But it is usually the first place the released fish will gravitate to. I will shoot you an IM about more info!

Eric after reading the posts on here I would skip the rip rap, grab a frog and look for some grass. - DC

    Re: Leesylvania rip-rap (Deepcreek)

    Deep,
I have tried that pattern with no success, I do better with spinnerbaits and pitching 1oz craws into the mats. I will most likely try the frogs again (persistant) and concentrate on the grass beds at the mouth of mattawomen and across the river from Quantico, south of the barge pit, I found some eel grass back in July and had pretty good luck there. Sucks I have not had the time to get on the river but I have a real good excuse... new daughter(first child) born the 27th of August and have had plenty of other things to do like diaper duty and launching the alert bottle LMAO... Great to be a Daddy (sorry for the rant LOL).

I will just have to keep an open mind and do what the river tells me to do.

Whats the water quality? Is it fairly clear? I know the rains must have made it muddy, just wonder how bad it's gonna be.

And thanks Gunny, I'll be waiting for the IM

That was rip-rap I thought someone dumped a bunch of rocks out there to keep the waves from the boat ramp

    Re: Leesylvania rip-rap (goose)

I don't think Goose ever fished the rip-rap there, otherwise it would be covered in "GOOSE CRAP" - y'know, rattletraps, spinnerbaits, maybe some assorted jigs and plastic, he hung-up all over them rocks.

    Re: Leesylvania rip-rap (bassboogieman)

I often fish the Leeysylvania area. A good pattern this time of year is to fish the ends of the rip-rap / rock piles, etc... on a good moving tide (either incoming or outgoing) with a Bandit 100 or 200 crankbait (Chartruese / Blue Splatter Back).

Last year at this time myself and a friend lost count of the 1 1/2 - 3 pound bass we caught using that pattern. As was said earlier --- it really is not hard to catch fish in that area. Its the first place the fish move to after being released after a tournament.
