I am fishing this weekend on the Potomac. My first time to the river.. I see the state line splits the river.. Do I need both va and md fishing license? Or will va license cover all waterways?.. How does it work guys?...![]()

Paul Stay below the Woodrow Wilson Bridge in DC and you will be OK!!
Water looks muddy to me from my office though, haven't been out there since I just got back for a week in Arkansas, but I would guess jigs/plastics on wood right about now!!
There's a reciprocal license agreement between VA and MD. The water covered under this agreement are from the US Route 301 bridge to the south up to the District of Columbia boundary line just above the Woodrow Wilson bridge to the north.
I fished the Potomac last Saturday and Sunday. Water clarity was much better Saturday than Sunday so it varied between 1-3 ft. Caught fish with shallow crank baits and white willow leaf spinner baits around grass and pads in Mattawoman creek. Plastic worms worked well too.
The large grass bed at the mouth of Aquia creek gets a lot of attention as it is a major spawning / staging area. You can also have success in Chickamuxen Creek and Mattawoman Creek as well.
Good luck and enjoy this awesome fishery.
