2000 Evinrude Ficht Ram Injection power head swap?

uys long time lurker and info junkie. A lot of great information in this community and I’d like to get the opinions of the smart/knowledgeable folks here 😉 I have a 2000 model Evinrude Ficht Ram Injection 200hp that blew the motor. The auto oiler quit and smoked the pistons and block. My question is will a 2006 “same motor just 6 yrs newer” power head bolt right up to the base plate on this 2000? I think OMC made them until 2002 then BRP took over? I’ve pounded the keyboard searching for answers but I haven’t found anything that is definitive on if this is possible or not. I’ve called boat mechanics and they almost just hang up when I tell them what I’m working on 😂

you can do it but you will need to use the power head adapter plate from the '06 and install it on the 00 mid. The 00 was a one off model year motor and a new adapter gasket. I answered your question in the General Forum..

why not just change out lower and drive shaft?

I guess I could if it would work? I don’t know much about outboards. Vehicle motors and dirt bike engines I can work on. How all this stuff bolts together on outboards is foreign to me lol

I think the difference in length is the mid section and drive shaft? The lower will work on both engines with appropiate driveshaft?

I'd buy a jackplate and would add the taller motor ... newer parts, newer sourced/inspected parts no less, and newer technology ... among many other benefits! Less time too, maybe even less expensive overall!
