not sticking up for GRDA by any means but what do they have to do with the corp releasing water out of gibson?
During normal days GRDA controls the water release while generating hydroelectric power. During flooding conditions the Corp. takes over the dam and the release. As flooding chances cease and the water recedes the corp turns the release back to GRDA. This is usually around 5 ft above normal. GRDA is nutorious for closing the gates, holding the water and generating additional power, which they sell, with that extra 5 ft of water.
Not near as much water runs through those penstocks and turning those generators than through those gates. Thus the lake goes down much slower.
good info, i did not know that, i thought that since gibson was a corp lake GRDA did not have anything to do with gibson. That's GRDA for you though.
How much rain did you get today? Bixby flooded in spots
according to a post on the basszone lake country anglers is on for this weekend@ gibson and it really has more to do with floods than grda, keystone has come up a foot since last night and its still risen the river is full up here they need to release some out of keystone
Gibson won't be too bad if we can stay dry. We only came up a little over a foot with yesterdays rains and as of 2pm it's headed back down. Right now we're sitting at 7.3 ft above normal. They're releasing more than the inflow but not by a bunch. We could be less than 5ft up by the weekend. The lake will probably be really stained & muddy. There will probably still be a lot of trash floating as well. Be CAREFUL out there.
