Was running offshore last week at 4,200rpm and noticed some voltage spikes on my voltmeter. At times it was 16-17 volts. When I went to idle it went down to normal 14. Throughout the day it would look fine but once it a while I would look at it and it would be high. When I got back to the ramp (after 90 miles or so) I was running the boat onto the trailer and left it in gear at about 2,000rpms while I jumped out to connect the winch (was fishing solo). I heard the horn go off and when I got back in the boat I looked and the check engine light was on. Shut down the motor and checked the code today. I understand this could be a wiring problem or possibly the stator or EMM. I just got the EMM back from DFI. I'll check the wires real good and run it this weekend. If the voltage is reading high again am I risking anything if I don't shut down, for example if I am 30 miles out and need to get back? I have new Optima Group 31 batteries and keep them charged.
