April 14 – Trail stop #2 for the Central North Carolina Bass Anglers Club was held on Belews Lake located in Stokes Co, NC. We gathered at the Piney Bluff ramp and Five boats launched at day break. The temps in the early morning felt more like mid December than mid April and the heavy fog that stayed around hid the sun keeping the air temp in the high 40's to low 50's until late morning. The water temps stay pretty constant in the mid to upper 70's all year long with the Duke Nuclear Power Plant discharging water into Belews Lake. Most of our anglers stated that all of the fish that were caught came between time the fog lifted around 8:30 and when the winds kicked up around 11:00. The bite basically came to a halt with wind gusts of 15 mph and higher for the rest of the day. Team “BigManMoving”, Charles Albright & co angler Doc Love brought in the winning bag with 3 Bass that weighed 4lbs 3oz. Love also claimed the Big Fish money with 1lb 10.7oz but by the slimmest of margins over Zach McFarlands Bass that weighed 1lb 10.5oz.

Team “OnyxOutDoors” Greg & Zach McFarland (pictured) finished 2nd with a total weight of 3lb 7oz.

CNCBA official Darren Kerns (foreground) possibly had the winning bag but was more than 10 minutes late to the official check in and his weight was disallowed. Kerns himself made the call.

We want to thank all of the anglers and club members that fished with us at Belews Lake.

Tuff bite for a perfict day on the water.

CNCBA Trail Stop #7 launched just after 7 AM following another "Big" Boat" tournament that launched a little earlier in the morning.

Ed McDaries & Tommy Blythe brought in the winning bag of 4 bass @ 11.30 lbs followed by Zach & Greg McFarland with a bag of 4 bass @ 9.15 lbs, Zach had a nice Bass that weighed 5.05 lbs (pictured). David & JohnBoy finished 3rd with a single catch of 5.55 lbs (David pictured) which earned big fish of the tournament.

The other tournament was just finishing up as we were leaving, top weight was just over 7 1/2 lbs, goes to show ya ... It don't take a $20,000 boat towed by a $30,000 vehicle to catch fish. I'd put our guys up against anybody!!!!!

We want to thank all the teams that fished with us Saturday and we hope to see everyone back to fish with us Oct 27, @ High Rock Lake . High Rock Lake is the 2nd largest lake in NC and spans over 15,180 acres plus there are 365 miles of shoreline across Salisbury-Rowan County.

    Ed & Tommy

    Zach McFarland

CNCBA Final Trail Stop of the year Moved to Randleman

Straight from Alcoa.com on the current water draw down at High rock Lake....

Beginning in early October, High Rock Lake will be maintained at 7 to 10 feet below full (lake elevation ... 648 feet to 645 feet) until late November, when the lake will be refilled. The exact draw down schedule may vary due to rainfall and river flow. Current lake levels and project updates are available online at www.alcoa.com/yadkin.
“Our goal is to refill the lake as quickly as possible once the repair work is completed,” said Marshall Olson, APGI Environmental and Natural Resources Manager. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we complete these improvements at High Rock Dam.”
Low Water Levels May Present Obstacles for Boaters: Olson encourages boaters to take special precautions during the drawdown. At low water levels, the exposed shoreline may be littered with debris and underwater obstructions may be closer to the surface.

On that note we feel it is in our best interest to cancel the final CNCBA Trail event scheduled for High Rock on October 27th, 2012. We certainly do not want to see any boats get damaged or anyone injured, it just is not worth the risk.

Our final CNCBA Trail stop will be moved to Randleman Reservoir on October 27th, 2012. We have see some tremendous fishing out there this year and the bite should be outstanding over there this time of the year.

    So, Re-Mark your calanders:

CNCBA Trail Stop #8 October 27th, 2012 @ Randleman Reservoir
You do not have to be a club member, there are no temp club fees ..... $40 a boat (single angler or 2 man team) and optional $5 per angler for big fish.

Open to all boats with 75 HP or less.

    Hope to see you there!!!!
