    ALABAMA RIG?????

Well guss everyone has heard by now------its going thru the bass fishing world like the chatterbait did afew years ago...........................but not without difference opinions on should it be allowed in tournaments or not.
some say it shouldnt be legal because its not legal to use more than 1 rod at a time ,so dragging 5 lures on this rig is kind of the same ending results as using muiltible rods...... others say heck ya nothing wrong with it .....WHAT YA THINK!

Ive never seen it in person but on the www. Looks like an umbrella rig to me. I say if its legal where you are then go for it.

Leave it to be called an "Alabama Bait". As coach stated it sounds like an unbrella rig (Striper Fishing). This rig is used by TROLLING the bait slowly through the water. I thought it was illegal to troll for bass in a tournament.

Actually you cast it and reel it in much like any other lure. You have to have a pool cue to throw the thing though because its so heavy. I see both sides of the arguement for this one. Will i buy one? Probably not. To me its a fad just like the chatterbait phase a few years ago and will soon fade off into the sunset.

    Re: ALABAMA RIG????? (coachcornbread)

ITS a take off of that U-rig but its not heavy. there is no weight except the lures you use (1/8 jig heads with fluke, swim bait,1/8 spinnerbaits ect) the plug looking device is to hold the joint where leader are attached. and its made of light plastic and painted like a crank bait. the leaders are sometimes made of small diameter stanless steel (coastal rigging wire) with snap swivels that attach to what lures the fisherman chooses have even seen jerk baits spinnerbaits and rooster tail type lures hooked up. OH yea 8 inch lizards drag around carolina style.

GOT MIXED FELLINGS MYSELF...but if you want one they were $25 each before the TX now 5-6 week wait seen some on ebay $55 each .......HOOTTIE HOO...
can you think what it would feel like with 3x 4 lbers on 50 pound braid and a flipping stick 50 feet from you boat and your in a $100,000 TX!!!!!!!!!! sh?t I'd have a heart attack...lol

A friend of mine was fishing the tournament at Guntersville and said almost every big bag came on this rig. I don't know how I feel about it but where will it end. Somebody on their website is already talking about hooking 2 of these together and running 9 baits.

I bought one Frank. Looks kinda neat in the water. Weighs a ton with five swim baits on it.
I don't always find schooling fish but when I do I backlash on the first cast

    Re: ALABAMA RIG????? (Frank A)

. .passing along this article from another web site ----FLW Outdoors confirmed in a report yesterday that the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has amended its umbrella rig regulations to allow three lures with hooks to be thrown on an Alabama Rig for bass fishing and casting applications. The original Tennessee fishing regulation had an exception for Umbrella rigs that stated the following:

Umbrella Rig Restriction – Umbrella rigs are defined as an array of more than 3 artificial lures or baits (with or without hooks) used by a single rod and reel combination. If the hook size is 6 or larger, then only one lure or bait may have a hook and that hook must be a single hook.
Since the emergence of the Alabama Rig last week at Lake Guntersville and many anglers on Kentucky Lake practicing for this week's Everstart Championship and November's BFL Wildcard as well as many local anglers wanting to throw these new rigs, the TWRA met and discussed the use of this "castable umbrella rig." The committee determined that three baits on a rig like this would be allowable in Tennessee waters with any size hook. There is no restriction in Kentucky waters. So you can throw TAR with five swimbaits in Tennessee waters, but only three lures can have hooks on them.

To read more about FLW Outdoors clarification on using TAR during the Everstart Series Championship this week, visit FLWOutdoors.com.

no different that using a front runner while fishing top water, or using a jig for a drop shot weight..1 rod but fishing with more than 1 bait at a time..
It will blow up then dissappear like the chatterbait and all the rest...

    Re: ALABAMA RIG????? (simoniz)

Look at the picture above. Go to your local saltwater store, buy the heaviest leader wire they have and make your own. Swivels and wire, there is less than a 1$ in the whole rig. Spinnerbait wire would also work well. Wait a month and Lucky Strike or somebody will have a copy of it for $10 or less. Patent's don't mean much in fishing. I hope the guys make all the money they can make on before it get copied.

    Re: ALABAMA RIG????? (Frank A)

As far as more than one lure, it's no different than double fluke rig. I can get my butt kicked just as good by someone throwing multiple baits as I can with him throwing one bait. If you want to haul that thing around and chunk it, then more power to you.

I also don't want to put one, much less two power poles on my boat to aggrevate any of my guest "backseater" fishermen. Those danged light poles are enough aggrevation. At least you can take the light down at sunrise. Besides I think they are as ugly as all get out.

These things might be alright for some guys, but I'll pass.

That's what makes America so great. Freedom of choice. God Bless Us!
