    Lake Norman Help

    Hey guys,

I plan on making a trip to Lake Norman next weekend to do a little prefishing for a club tournament that i have down there at the end of October. I was looking for a little information on Norman. I have never fished or even been on Lake Norman. So i was going to see if any of you guys could tell me some places to try, baits, what color of baits to use, what to look for, or anything else of that nature. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Allen Schurdell

Rocks and docks. Shakey head worms, jig and trailer, both in green pumpkin will be a good choice to start.

Allen Sorry nobody got with you. Pros and their secret spots you know
There use to be a great tackle shop on Brawley School Rd that I helped out and a lot of clubs from WV would come in. I haven't been on the water in over a year but I think I still know how to catch some. First where are you taking off from. No need to have you running all over the lake if you never have been here before. Fish are at all depths, if you have never been on Norman and don't have much time stay in water 10 feet and less. For baits start with a crankbait. I use a ton of balsa crankbais on Norman but a Bomber 6A still catches the fire out of as well as a Spro Lil John. The water isn't dirty now so keep it shad colored. A clear skirted spinnerbait. 3/8 oz jig with a twin tail grub trailer.http://www.truesouthlures.com/lures go here and look up the Mafia Craw color use a trailer that has some orange and purple in it. Your favorite topwater. Not many people use them any more but the Tiny Torpedo still works. 3/16oz shakey head. Only two colors of worm you need are a green pumpkin and a PURPLE. After you start getting bites move up to a seven inch worm for bigger fish. And a 1/2oz jigging spoon. Keep this rod on the deck ready to throw all the time. When you see fish busting shad on top throw it to the school and hang on. I've had many 100 fish a day trips and used nothing but the spoon.Don't forget to post which ramp your on and if you need any jigs or blades John at Truesouth can hook you up quick. There are fish all over the lake no need on burning gas, just put the trolling motor down and get busy.

Re: Lake Norman Help (Frank A)

Good info from both RB and Tommy.

Mid lake and down lake are far more productive for numbers as they normally are right now.

Lucky Creek, Davidson Creek, Ramsey Creek, Burton Creek, Hagars Creek are all on fire at the moment. McCreary which is near the mid lake ramps is also real good.

The guys are dead on. Focus on one of two things right now, first bait balls as the fish are all over them. Find em on your graphs in the creeks and let it rip with that spoon, a jerkbait, smaller sized topwater as mentioned, etc. The other plan is docks. Docks on Secondary points are holding fish like crazy. Shakey Head worm, Jig, 3/8 spinnerbait in shad pattern, small swim baits, etc are getting mashed.

I wrecked em yesterday on a 3/8 Nichols Shattered Glass slimmer blue/shad Spinnerbait and a War Eagle blue back herring pattern.

Fish are nearly as far back in the creeks as they can get right now. Had a few on a rattle bait (1/4 oz red eye shad in sexy shad and lavendar shad) also.

If there is no wind, don't power fish. If there is wind, never put that crank bait or the blade down. Go get em

I thought that's where you were going out. Launch your boat and go straight across the lake and start fishing. Start on the point of the large cove and go south down the bank. After fishing that go down lake to Little Creek and go to the back and start out

Better yet, chain them to his pier, he might get lucky and catch one of 'em!

No doubt cause he ain't got any brush there to hold them anymore. Boots time to sweeten up that dock of yours with some more brush piles. Then I'll show you how to look at them with that new Side Imaging unit you just bought from Andy.

I will be sure to let you guys know how it goes. One thing i have found out over the years is that it is always hard to catch some one elses fish. No matter if they tell you what to use, where to go, and how to fish it doesn't always mean you can catch them. I just appreciate the info you guys gave me to give me some what of an idea and a starting point. Thanks again

Empty beer cans and mason jars don't hold fish.

    Re: Lake Norman Help (lknbassman)

No Mason Jars or Cans around my dock They all at Dads Old Dock from 45 years ago along with alot of "other stuff" I will sweeten the dock soon when I start clearing the back lots I can't seem to catch a fish unless it's small Shad Rap City If ya throw Green Pumking Shakey head you will catch alot of fish for a 8 lb sack, now switch of a Jig it will improve. Now if you got wind, power fish for five bites. Stay South of the 150 Bridge

    Re: Lake Norman Help (lknbassman)

    lknbassman,

I got to looking at some maps of norman and noticed that some of these creeks are fairly large. Should I focus more on the very backs of the creeks or focus more on the secondary points. I figure this time of year that the water level is dropping and im not sure how far you could even go back in these creeks.

    Thanks,

    Allen

    Re: Lake Norman Help (shurdy)

The reason for a LACK of post on LKN is due the number to $$$$ Tournaments on the lake Monday Night, Tues. Night, OFC's on Thursdays, the Friday Nighters, and 10,581 Bass Clubs on Saturday along with 2 $$$ Tournaments and on Sunday the rest of the Republicans that work on Sunday They still think there secects left on the old pond and they don't want to show "Their Spot" Remeber the Rangerman told ya there are not secert spot, and ya don't own a Damn one of my secert spots and best not catch ya on one Shoot me a IM after the OFC and I will try and help ya for what good it will do.
