Posted in merc. boards figure I would try here also

I have a 1996 mercury 175 about a month ago a switch was left on and killed the battery so dead it wouldnt start I used the emrgency pull rope to get it started.
Since then when I start the boat the volt guage pegs above 18 and the engine is not charging the battery. I have two CDI 40amp regulators the wires at the connections are black like theyve been hot. If I charge the new battery the boat gets on plane fine as the day goes on the boat has trouble getting on plane I figure this is due to battery not having enough charge. I think the problem is either the regulators or the stator is there a way to check each?
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated

Call Tony Brucauto 919-718-0249. He deals with this every single day and most like will tell you to test the rectifiers. Sounds to me like you have ac voltage bleeding into the system.
