Guys im planning a N.C. trip for next year and dont know alot about the lakes down there. I was looking into High Rock and Gaston. I was wondering if these are two of the better lakes? And what time of year is the best to go? Im also up for suggestions on lakes that you feel are better. Thanks alot for any info you can provide. Dave

SkeeterMark, im up for suggestions on what time of year is best. I live in Md and may-june is usually good up here. But i really am open to anytime of the year. I just would like to hit either one at the best time possible. Thanks for your help
I do not know HR that well but have caught some nice ones there in the fall. Gaston (one of my fav lakes) is awesome IMO most of the year. I do better there post spawn when they get under the docks. Alot of grass, docks, underwater structure to choose from.
I am sure the HR guys will chime in to help with that. As far as amenities...Gaston is pretty isolated....South Hill Va close and Henderson NC a lil further. HR has Salisbury and Lexington close with Charlotte and Greensboro not too far away.
I like High Rock much better than Gaston. High Rock seems to have better quality and more cooperative fish.

High Rock is a great lake, but I would hate to plan a trip there way ahead of time, becuase of the fluctuating water levels. It isn't always a problem, but that place can get nasty when alot of water gets dumped in it. Gaston is controlled within 18" of normal pool year round. You might also consider Roanoke Rapids Lake. You don't hear much about it, but it probably has the best quality fish anywhere in the state.

Skeetermark, I can not believe you didn't say one thing about Falls!!What you give up on that lake?
By the way lets meet up and go to Buggs one weekend or so! IM if interested.
Falls Lake is on my poop list right nowI love that lake moslty, but right now I hate it
Right now everyone is getting pooped on by the lake they like the best due to the high temperatures and it doesn't look to let up anytime soon.
