First time to Lake Champlain
Started out...well, awful.
A friend of mine wanted some assistance looking for smallmouth bass on the southern end of the lake near Ti, he had spots but is primarily a shallow water largemouth bass angler, whereas I'm comfortable doing that or finesse fishing deep water for smallmouth bass, so I went up to help him run some deep spots and see what we could come up with. The bite was definitely off, but I was still bummed my first trip to Champlain wasn't going so great. Once I was confident the smallie bite just wasn't going to happen, my friend suggested we go do what he does best: punch some grass mats for largemouth. I've never done that because we just don't get grass like that pretty much anywhere in NH, except maaaybe the Connecticut River in some areas (that's a guess). But this move completely turned the day around for us, and I had a blast. I love all kinds of fishing...but damn do I love the heavy rod/line/weight combo for some mega largie thumpin bites.
