The Case for a Mercury Racing V6 Four Stroke

What do you guys think of the prospect of the 3.4L V6 tuned by Mercury Racing? Specifically a 225 and 250R HP. I think it makes tons of sense, the current V8 250R does not sell well, it's heavy for a 250, has the big Sport Master and just doesn't suit a lot boats. The V6 platform, is about 50 Lbs lighter, smaller, and with some upgrades from Racing, could be a really great performer.

I outlined a few details, making the case in this article. What do you think? Would you rather see a 225R and 250R as a V6?

If the V8 doesn't sell well I don't really see why the V6 would. Most people are just buying the regular ProXS. Small market for the racing motors anyway.

The V8 is selling well in the 300R configuration, I just think the 250 should be lighter and smaller, optional gearcases to appeal to the market. Most of the R motors go to consumers. They are for Allisons, Bullets, etc. and other sport boats.

How about a 200R hanging off the back of a BassCat Pantera II. I could go for that.
I know you can flash a 200 SHO, but that can cause warranty issues.

I don’t know that I could afford it if they made one but a 225r or better yet 250r based on the v6 would be the perfect motor for my XB-2003. I’ve been wishing they would develop that ever since I saw the weights of the v6.
