What prop washer setup should I use?

So I pulled the prop off the boat I recently purchased and noticed something was a little weird. There were two washers behind the prop and a loose plastic ring. I attached photos of all the components as well as the prop with both washers, just the thicker washer, and just the thinner washer. It seems like the thicker washer has a tighter fit on the prop so im assuming I only need to use that one... any advice is appreciated!

No idea why there would be 2 thrust washers in a stacked installation. They look like for 2 different-sized shafts. The "loose plastic ring" appears to be a blow-out ring, used with 4-blade prop to reduce amount of exhaust over hub. 4-blade prop barrels in our application are smaller diameter because they are an over-thru exhaust. Except for specialized props, 3-blade units are thru-hub exhaust and therefore have no application for a blow-out ring.

May be a part number on your thrust washers. I'd double check that EITHER one is the correct one - under the circumstances. You appear to have been living on borrowed time.

Found a part number on one of them that I can do some research with. I also measured the thru hole on both washers and the larger merc one was about .060" larger. You can also see in my pic that it appears the thinner washer has a crack around it...

The middle picture (depth) looks correct as long as it doesnt rub. Spin it and make sure the hub does not rub on the lower unit housing.

Also need to check that the cotter pin/nut lock engages correctly at proper torque. You may need to stack washers between the prop and the castle nut.

Edit: my post assumes you ditched the blow out ring.

It would be wise to get a complete hub kit for your motor and prop in your case, You could end up damaging the prop shaft or prop mixing in the incorrect washers and retainers
    Thank You Leon Pugh

I did remove that ring and reassembled it with the middle picture setup. Where would I find information on correct torque? I'm thinking of contacting a local mercury shop to get advice from them...

My problem is finding the correct parts/ information online... not sure what hub kit I'd need for a 1997 200hp merc with a tempest prop.
