How do you guys go about learning a new lake? What do you look for when looking at maps or out on the water? What type of baits do you like to throw for which time of the year when you are out there trying to figure it out?![]()

Chris,
This is the time of year when they want to fatten up. Try the points with spinnerbaits or crankbaits. If your a jig man, Rod should pipe in. You can also locate offshore weedlines and drop a slow falling bait into the deeper water. I hope this helps.
I agree on the spinnerbaits. I like to power fish and I would cover the main lake points with spinnerbaits and crankbaits. If nothing is happening then work your way down the water column with the boring baits like Senkos, drop shoting or shakeyhead worming.
Good luck.
I always here that, "fattening up for the winter", but Ive always found the fall a tough bite...![]()
