Re: FICHT AND FUEL ECONOMY (rangerman1963)

Ficht is the name of a Company, not too sure it means anything, and about 4,000RPM is probably the best crusing range, be sure your Motor can run to max RPM though, to make sure you have the correct propellor.

Ficht is the name of the designer of that type of injector.

Re: FICHT AND FUEL ECONOMY (Bassmeister)

Extract of an old press release found on the web:

"OMC considers its patent portfolio, including those acquired in the FICHT
transaction with FICHT GmbH, to be of considerable value even though no
single patent or license is deemed to be material."

Ficht GmbH was the name of the company but maybe Mr Ficht was the founder of the company

Re: FICHT AND FUEL ECONOMY (Bassmeister)

Lernt me sumthin today, I thought it stood for Fuel Injected Computer H(?????) Technology. I saw a chart once that showed 3800 rpm yielding 4.6 mpg on that particular setup. Think it was similar to my TR-22 but can't remember for sure

Re: FICHT AND FUEL ECONOMY (woody912)

Ficht was the last name of the German engineer who pioneered direct injection technology in outboard motors.

Ficht was the first direct injection motor on the market followed buy Mercury Opti Max then Yamaha HPDI...the Ficht has been redesigned and is now called E-Tech

Direct injection is a motor that is computer controlled...it sprays gas into each cylinder one at a time when it needs combustion. The oil is not directly mixed with the gas...it is sprayed into each cylinder one at a time as the cylinder/piston needs lubrication. Direct Injection motors Ficht/E-Tech/Opti Max/HPDI have very precise timing as to when the combustion chamber gets oil and gas sprayed into it.

I do not have a fuel flow meter or any way of checking my gas mileage. It seems like my best gas mileage is around 38-4100 rpms on my 99 150.
