    research

Ok guys, after going out fishing with blazin461 I am now looking into a new boat. just starting my research here but I so far I am tossing around the idea of getting either a skeeter or a ranger. I like the way both are layed out. but I would like to hear from you all on who has what and the pros and cons of each. any input would be helpful.

I think those are two pretty different boats. You might also consider a Phoenix -- great ride, performance, and fishability.

AND... you have a great Skeeter and Phoenix dealer just south of you. Go see Jeff at Lake Drive Marine just south of Coldwater on the N. end of Coldwater Lake. He is a great guy and can definitely give you all the info you need on those boat. And, he is a FISHERMAN besides!!!

    Bass Cat....

Actually all of the new boats are pretty awesome.....I would focus on Service reputation and best deals available....

I have fished as a Co quite a bit over the last few years and I haven't fished out of what i would consider a bad boat....

+1 There aren't many places that I've found in my area that I can trust. Not saying there aren't any......

    Skeeter: Speed, fishability, great looks.

Ranger: better fishablity, great looks, resale.

I have ran both and I am hard pressed to pick one over the other. There are too many variables depending on your situation. how long do plan on keeping it?

You cant beat the Rangers resale value, but Skeeter builds a great rig too. Fast and tough.

Between the two I would give the nod to Rangers ride in the rough stuff.

    Re: research (MI17Explorer)

Ok, all. have an update to my researching, turns out i'm not gonna be able to get a new boat. BUT, i put mine up for sale and have been talking to a guy that has a Pantara Bass Cat that he was asking 6k for, the boat has some wiring issues (turns out i'm not bad at figuring them out), and basically needs some TLC and a good rub down with some wax. I'm going to go look at it today. here is the punch line though: he called today and seen my boat on craigs list and asked if i would be willing to trade even up. i'm asking 4500$ for mine! most of you have seen the pics of mine, and know i take care of her. the Bass Cat has a 200 Merc on it. I'm going to take some pics of her when i get there and will post them. any thoughts? I did talk to Blazin and he said sounded like i was coming out ahead.

    Re: research (jmt1221)

as with ANY brand USED boat try and check every inch of floor for weak spots, jump up and down on the motor while checking out the transom, and a compression check by a mechanic is also on the list too.
trailer, check the brakes if you can, lights and wheel bearings. oh and the battery charger is worth looking at too they ain't cheap either

    Re: research (bob o)

ok, Just got back from looking at the boat, walked all through the boat and didn't find any weak spots, did grab the motor and moved it as much as i could while checking the transom and could not see any problems there. he did show me the compression check that was done recently, and every thing checked out fine according to the mechanic. battery charger does not work or at least has been disconnected, if need me i'll keep my home charger in the boat to charge the batteries. only major issue is the oil injection system stopped working, which is when he took it to the mechanic, the mechanic told him it is fine to mix the oil with the gas, i called a friend of mine here that works on boat motors and said the same thing, he has an estimate for the repair and will cost 1400$. he is bringing it down to me to run on a local lake on Sunday. the trailer wiring is decent but could use some cleaning up, and a couple lights need to be replaced but nothing major. and other than needing a bath and wax i felt it was good. has 2 lowrance FF. that i most likely will update to newer models in the next couple years. was not able to check the brakes at this time but the bearings looked as though they have been greased. no play in the wheels that i could tell.

that was one of the things i really liked about it too. She'll look a lot better after a nice bath and wax.

As far as the "Bass cat" part of things, hull and trailer, you would be getting a quality built product. There is no one better to deal with for questions and parts than BCB. Sherms' is a little bit of a drive, but when it comes to mercury and bcb he is one of the best and i would contact him about the oil injection. Maybe get it to him this winter and let him look into it, never know, maybe it is a easier/cheaper fix than the others say.
You would also be eligible for the owners tournament each year(great time). you could also become quest eligible for tournaments.
