    Jacksonville

I got my conformation for the Rotary tournament back in the mail the other day. It says NO Alabama rigs or any variation of them allowed. I understand no A rigs but why cant I throw a legal variation of it?

It is too hard for the tournament director to determine if you are using a modified version or not. That's the reason.

Wouldn't the same problem be for say jerk baits as well. since a jerk bait with 3 hook shanks on it would be illegal and it would be nearly impossible to tell the difference from a jerk bait with 2 hooks than one with 3 hooks. Just a question that I wonder every time I hear the no one could tell which you were throwing logic.

Who needs it anyways? I find it kinda cheating to be throwing 5 baits at the same time...

I dont want to throw 5 baits at one time. Just 2. I always assumed that in tournaments there was a level of trust. If they announce you cant throw over 2 lures on a line thats what I expect the other competitors to do.

    Re: Jacksonville (ventben)

The Rotary tournament has banned the A rig for this tourney. The Thursday night club also declared the A rig to be banned. I quess they were too tight to purchase one. Jacksonville Lake during normal operations will allow the two rod two hook rule. Thus allowing for a modified A rig (ex. 3 blades ans 2 swim jig) The City of Jacksonville will start selling season boat passes on March 12,2012. When applying boater must have proof of liability insurance, pay for season pass. If you care to fish Lake Jacksonville before camping season starts, the boater will be required to buy a season pass. There are 3 types of seasona passes 1. In city residence, 2 In county residence, and out of county. The three fees will in priced differently. Also horse power has a multiplier that sets permit fee. Once that you purchase a season pass you are googd to go. Season passes can be purchased at the city clerks office. If you the rotary tourney, you can buy a daily permitt at the boat dock

    Re: Jacksonville (Roger Henderson)

Thanks Roger for clearing that up for us. It's too bad some organizations have have jumped the the gun and outlawed the rig before learning more about it. Someone could argue that braided line is unfair beacause it lets you land fish from thick cover that years ago was impossiable. Jeez I hate when I make sense.lol

    Re: Jacksonville (5000D)

Lake Jacksonville is only 477 acres. The Rotary tournament full field is 40 Boats. The City of Jacksonvile continues to keep spraying for aquatic weeds and have killed most of them, plus the Lake is down 1 1/2'. It is going to fish small. The lake can fish pretty tough. It is not as good as it was 3 or 4 years ago when the lake had coontail.

Our Thursday night club met with Bruce and we vented our concerns about the aquatic weed spraying. Bruce stated that the city would take it under advisement.

Dan Stephenson (fisheries biologist) say they have not sprayed for weeds other then the few small areas they always spray. He says an invasive speices of weed (that nasy, slimey moss looking stuff) is killing out the desirable weeds..

    Re: Jacksonville (local16)

The weeds at Jacksonville have been treated for the last 25 years. Usually they do a good job on them and only treat around the docks. Last year I dont know what they did but they killed just about all of it. Hopefully the grass comes back thick this year. Especially the coontail.

    Re: Jacksonville (local16)

My neigbor and I were out on Lake Jacksonville two years ago and they had a commerical firm spraying. We witnessed them spraying areas that were not in the boat dock areas. I am retired from the Ill. dept. of Agr. and was responsible for pesticide testing -which included such areas as aquatic weed applications. The desirable coontail is no longer present . Only milfoil is present along with the slimy moss. This past year even the milfoil was not as bad as usual. If Lake Jacksonville weed concentration gets any worse the spawn bass frey will not have any place to hide and will be consumed by their predators. In the past three years the Thursday nite bass club yearly total numbers and weghts keep receding.

    Re: Jacksonville (Roger Henderson)

Trust me Roger you didnt witness areas being treated that werent supposed to be two years ago. The reason I know is that I treated the lake from 05-10. You guys were lucky to have a bass fisherman treating the lake. Last year my replacement (who had about 3 months experience and probably didnt even know where to treat) smoked the weeds. I always made a concious effort to treat the bare minimum when I was out there. The coontail in the lake hasnt been treated since 05. Since then only liquid 2-4 D has been used at about 2 gal/acre which kills millfoil not coontail.

    Re: Jacksonville (ventben)

.....either way....the grass that made that lake so good....is almost gone. Hopefully giving it a year off from spraying will allow it to come back.
