    wire that is unplug

I have a 1989 johnson 200gt I will get the serial number for it tomorrow when there is light.

I had the motor worked on last year and last week after taking out to the lake I was just checking the motor over and ran into a problem. On the left side of the motor if standing behind the motor and looking towards the front of the boat there is a wire that I see is not plugged in that goes to a black box. I included pics. Does anybody know what that wire is for and do I plug it back in? The boat ran fine so I do not know what to do. The only thing I have done to the motor lately is removed the VRO and premixing the oil.

    TIA

That is the wire from the oil tank low oil sender thingie watchamacallit.

Those tank pickups contain electronics to give off the beep every 20-30 seconds when the oil is down low. Many times the electronics go belly up by sounding continuous or intermittent or weird sounds and folks just disconnect the wire instead of paying over $100 in parts and labor just to have something to tell them what they should be checking visually anyway. (now that is a long sentence!)
