Today I decided to take my kids out for a few hours of fishing on the boat. I have had Gavin in the boat twice last year and attempted fishing once and it was a disaster (he was 2 at the time). We got on Shelbyville today and I tied on a brush hog on his little Zebco Spiderman rod. Also tied one on Morgan's rod. After a few minutes I hear Gavin say "Daddy, something is going on here, please help me". I hear a bass jump and I tell Gavin to reel it in. He sat there and cranked and cranked and got his first fish ever in the boat (and the first fish of the day boated)
and it was a LM to boot. Gavin had no trouble lipping the bass and he was so proud. About two minutes later, Morgan caught a bass. We fished for about 40 minutes and caught 5 bass. We then drove around the lake for about an hour (trying to keep it fun) and he even lost his hat to the water demons twice
I'm very proud of Gavin and Morgan. Morgan can fish an 8 hour day and I hope my boy will want to do the same
PS, for those of us who spend all the money on the rods and reels; we have been doing it wrong. All we need is a Zebco Spiderman rod and a brush hog!!!
