Re: Red Bull - Seriously?? (mikepags)

I know a family that makes about 3 times what I do and uses the EBT cards......I am talking mid 6 figures....People have turned them in but they just transfer the card to another family member....

If the Government would clamp down on the fraudulant use of these benefits there would be more than enough money out there for those that really need it.....

EBT cards should be illegal to use in Party stores and quick marts....

Re: Red Bull - Seriously?? (brnzbaklvr)

Well, from my own experience a few years ago when I was between losing my job and starting my business, the EBT card saved my families a$$. I don't know about where you live, but in IL it was extremely hard to get, I had to give an enormous amount on personal and financial info, and you have to open your home to constant and random visits by DCFS. It was an incredible pain but we were grateful for it. Once I was asked if I felt bad taking the government money. I said heck no, this is MY MONEY. I paid taxes into the system for 20 years, so this was just a little pay back. I was glad to get off of it though but I know one thing: I will never pass judgment on others for taking assistance because you never know their real story. Just because I was driving an Expedition and wearing a suit does not mean I have money. Maybe that suit and car was 10 years old!

I am very glad that you got good use out of the system the way it is supposed to be done. I dont think anyone on this board would complain about a person that was down to get government assistance and then continually trying to improve themselves by looking for a job or a better job. The problem is when families make government assistance a way of life. When kids grow up in homes that no one works and the money comes in for free do you think those kids are going to have the character built into them to go out and make an honest living? I doubt it. Bottom line is it should be a limited time program and not a way of life.

I also don't think anyone on this board would condone the abuse of this assistance. The abuse is the problem and not the program. Better enforcement should be a priority. I also am amazed at some people's ability to determine a person's eligibility just by their looks..

EBT does not always mean welfare. My wife had an EBT card for her state mandated child support. Only way she ever got a dime!!! Not saying that's always the case, but there are exceptions to the rule!!!! But there were no restrictions on where we could use it at all or what we could buy!! I'm sure there were some ribeyes and bourbon bought with it!!

When I met my wife she had one too.....She was HARDLY making bank by any means. She still worked, payed rent, paid daycare etc.

The process of getting, and keeping it is mortifying for ANYONE with any pride.

I honestly don't know how some people play the system. She was constantly getting re-evaluated etc.
As soon as I knew I really loved her/we were getting serious I helped her out so she didn't have to deal with it anymore.

And you sure as hell can't stereotype her either. She was a single mom, and is the furthest thing from trampy, and she sure as heck isn't lazy. Works, hard. In fact, she is the only one that does work, because she has a good job, and I'm going to school fulltime.

Re: Red Bull - Seriously?? (09RangerZ520)

GUYS-These are some of the EXACT reasons you and everyone you know needs to VOTE! If the current government continues to increase in size, continues to bury our economy in debt with all the Government funded programs, what do you all think will happen? We are headed to becoming a socialist country at a break neck speed. And if you think to much of your dollar is going to fund all this, you wait and see how much worse it gets if we as the American people don't rally to vote a real business man in office. The US Government is a business, and like all the rest of us business owners had to do, (myself included), control and reduce spending, or close the doors.
Pimpin' ain't easy, but it's necessary.

The card should be for bare essentials: bread, eggs, milk, etc and not for Red Bulls, candy bars, mountain dew and now Burger King........

I'm all about helping people, but they need to help themselves first!

Its flat out rediculous that I pay taxes for that.....
