Re: New transom saver for Yamaha motots (HD)

HD, That solution will not work. If I raise the engine one hole, that will put the motor up 3/4" as that all I have left on the engine height spacing. However, that will not cure the problem, for I have to lower the manual Jack Plate down 3/4" more to put the prop shaft in it's proper running position. So, I'm back to the same position as before in the travel limits.

If I have a hydraulic Jack Plate, I could raise and lower the engine each time I would install or remove the ProRule transom saver. I hope I have explained it so you know the situation.

Re: New transom saver for Yamaha motots (avirex7823)

Has anyone received one of these T-Mounts ProRule makes? If so, is there a rubber cushion inside the two tubes for the trim pistons? The reason I ask this question, what protects the hard contact it will encounter when one hits bump, railroad, and the motor jumps up and back down, hitting the metal flange?

I notice the Wedge at least has some hard rubber cushioning effect, which does give protection..

Re: New transom saver for Yamaha motots (avirex7823)

there's not a rubber cushion inside the tube, but it does have a hard plastic at the base that extends into the inside tube about 2 inches. The way it works is the Transom saver fit's over the trim rods ( where there's a hard plastic end at the base of the trim rod. This base fits over the trim rod base that keeps the TS aligned straight so the trim pistons do not make contact with the TS. Now, I'm not saying that it couldn't happen or doesn't happen, but they are not touching when it's initially set on the motor. I took my boat on a 4 hr round trip to the lake this weekend and it worked like a charm. The trim rods are not my concern. Now, on the other end, the motor did scratch some of the powder coating off where the TS meets the motor plate. I did not see any scratching on the motor, but ....

A MyWedge product will do the same thing as the ProRule. The difference is the prorule covers both trim rods, where the MYWEDGE covers 1. I also bought the MYWEDGE Center Clips to keep my engine straight... those are $7/pair.

Re: New transom saver for Yamaha motots (jfdawson)

jfdawson, what is the total length of this ProRule t-mount? The way my ProV-150 is built, it can only be about 8-1/4" for the t-Mount to work.
The trim pistons on the older Yamaha 150 has some difference in the angle of the trim pistons, and the way it meets the rear engine housing.

Here's the number to the dude that makes them. My boat is in storage about 30 miles from my house, so I don't have the exact measurements, but It's not very tall. I'd say 10", but I'm not certain.

I think his name is Greg.

ok now I see what your sayin , yeah I guess the hydraulic plate is the best way to handle that.i run my hydr. plate all the way up while it's in tow, so that's probably the best thing to do in your situation

Works Great. A little black electrical around the small end thet touches the motor and no worry about rubbing the paint off. I really don't think it would be a problem anyhow. If you don't like the electrical tape try putting liquid tape on it. The kind you use for splicing wires in a wet enviroment (trailer lights).

Do you think it would work if you had trim extenders mounted?

    Quick question....

I have a 1989 ProV 150. The two pistons retract all the way into the housing. How does this thing stay in place if both pistions are retracted inside the housing? Am I missing something here?

    Thanks for any info!

Bass, the rods stick out enough to hold the saver in place

Chevy comes with two sets of the clips.

I was hoping they would come up with some better clips. Mine only lasted (3) trips before one split right down the middle. Great idea, and design. Just looks like sub-standard materials. I think they will be great if they just make them out of a more durable, and flexible material. Anyway, Glad to hear they are working on the problem.

Re: New transom saver for Yamaha motots (adamant)

Thanks for the reply and sorry about the confusion. I meant updates on the Pro Rule product. I used to use a lock'n stow but with the Yammie been looking for something similar. The mywedge is getting beat up and I thought this product looked interesting, but wanted opinions from those using it.
