    Re: A-Rig Set-up rod/reel/line (cougarcat22)

If he is on a budget, he can use a Abu Garcia 5500C3 or bigger size reel and any 7 1/2' heavy action rod. I am using a Bass Pro 7'6" Extreme Flipping stick with a fast tip. This rod is one of the older ones that is blue in color. All told I have less than $175 in the combo and it casts well. If I wasn't going to be using the rig very regularly I certainly wouldn't shell out $400 for a combo...just my opinion

I'm using a 7' mh bps pro qualifier, curado e5 and 65 lb. power pro for now, it works ok for lighter rigs.

    Re: A-Rig Set-up rod/reel/line (cougarcat22)

I love the action and how well the Dobyns 795 ML SB Mike Long Signature Series Swimbait rod...it's designed to handle 1 to 5 Ounce swimbaits and had the rod tip and the longer handle makes it so much easier to hook-up when you get bit. With any bait to maximize the performance and design characteristics of the bait to do what they are suppose to do having the right rod makes it easier on the angler and catch more fish!

Might check with BBC Sponsor Three Rivers Marine Electronics...they sell Dobyns Rods: http://www.threeriversmarine.n...age=3

    Re: A-Rig Set-up rod/reel/line (Doug Vahrenberg)

I'm using the normal handle dobyns 806 swimbait rod which has the same handle as the 795ml just a little longer/stiffer rod. I bought it for big swimbaits but it's made an excellent arig rod. My rig weighs a little over 4 ounces so i'm probably better off with the 806 anyway. I may have to figure out something else for throwing lighter rigs in shallower water.

My reel is a ambassadeur 6600 c4 (only $100) with 80lb sunline fx2. I havent managed to break 80lb braid yet.

    Re: (mrlawler1)

What type of knot are you guys tying braid to the rig and what type of jigs have you had the best luck with? Can you use regular swimbait hooks unweighted?
