My Yamaha repair place told me as of last month they've had 3 HPDI blown up.all 3 had the #2 cylinder as the culprit.Something about improper oiling ratio. Also know of 3 E-TEC blowing in same month. So it's not just Yamaha. The misery seems to be spread around.

I can tell u it happens to all the brands. I have been and am still going thru it with my ETEC. So much so (read that as multiple times) i have reached the point of giving serious consideration to repowering with a Yamaha and then this post comes up. Just goes to show that the consumer is paying for the debugging that that manufacturers should have done before offering them to the public, primarily the DI's.
I also find it funny how so many blame these things on not being broke in properly or not having a filter in it etc etc., sure it happens because of those things, bad gas and all, but I know what i and others have done, even with filters.
By the way not to leave Mercury out, i also know of two merc owners in the last couple of months that have both had major issues, one totally blown.......both were new 225 pro xs.
Maybe the next time my powerhead actually runs properly the roll of the dice will be a good one.
As far I am concerned vent all you like and wish others would as well, it would eventually get more attention from the manufacturers to address and put to bed these bugs. How would a restaurant know if they were not doing well if someone does not complain? All of the manufacturers have the basis for an outstanding outboard they just need a bit more to get them reliable. In the meantime you, I and others are paying for it........

    Good luck to you!

My buddy's 2 month old Etec HO just went pop yesterday...It is not just the Yami's...Lean is mean, but also very dangerous with a 2 stroke....They make great HP when they run that lean, but some bad fuel or low H2O pressure can cause disasterous results..

Re: Are we at #7 or #8 wasted now? (201pro)

Well i had them increase my oil injection rate and boy could i tell this weekend. I ran around 75 miles this week on Toledo and burnt about a half tank of oil. I would much rather buy more oil and change a few more fouled plugs then pop a motor every couple months.
