    Re: 250xs blown #6 options? (doug'sdad)

Doug, I want you to listen very closely to what I am going to say.... Talk to Eric Simon at SIMON MOTORSPORTS!!!
I found myself in your situation a couple years ago with my 225EFI. Lost #1 Piston, and after taking it into the shop, was told to expect $6000 for a powerhead and an additional $1800 for labor. Talking to 896J (Justin Fearn) here on the boards, he hooked me up with Eric Simon. I had many options to choose as far as rebuilding my motor. 225,250,250XB,300PM,335. I chose to spend the money and have my motor built to a 335hp. The difference in performance was incredible. But the thing that impressed me most was that Eric explained in detail everything that he was going to do to the motor. The difference in my stock 225 to the 335 is incredible, not because of the power, but in the way it runs. You turn the key, it fires instantly and idles as smooth as a baby's butt. With everything being balanced and blueprinted, there is no rattling when you hammer the throttle. Eric does top notch work. He will answer all your questions even when he's busy in the shop. I've talked to him countless times to answer boneheaded questions for me.
On another note... I lost a seal in my lower unit this past spring, called Eric about what I should do as far as taking it to one of the shops around my home. He tells me to crate it up, send it to him and he'd take care of me. I build a crate, ship it UPS to Southern California, and get it back in 8 days (6 days were shipping). With shipping, it ended up costing me $70 less than any of the Ranger dealers here in Northern California, and they would have had it for a minimum of 4-5 weeks. If that isn't service, I don't know what is. Eric also keeps me up to date on any upgrades that will benefit my setup. That is how he conducts business. Call him, and if you decide to do business, you won't have to wonder in the back of your mind if the motor is going to leave you hanging in the middle of the pond If you want more info from me, send me a PM.
