    ficht - faststrike ??

I'm thinking about buying a 97 ranger with a 1997 johnson 150 faststrike. I've been researching this motor, but what i keep reading calls the motor a " ficht faststrike". Are these the same motors? If so, I've been reading some bad things about "ficht" motors.

The model number will tell you if it is a carbed or an injected motor. Welcome to the BBC!

Ah, ok... I figured a couple things out here (I think) the ficht is the fuel injection model faststrike. When I looked at the motor I didn't know this was the distinction between fuel inject. and not, but, what I do know is "ficht" is not on the cowling. So, until I get to go back and get a model #, it appears this is a carb motor. Sound right?

Possibly can the seller just tell you the number?

Even if it was a FICHT motor, I talked with 6 different service departments about the ficht engines before I bought mine, every single one said they didn't have any more problems then they did with normal carbed engines or efi engines. Especially the 1999 model year and later Ficht engines. So I bought mine with confidence. Most things you hear about the engines are just the bad experiences, but every type of engine has its problems, you just don't hear about the engines that run great. Bottom line, have an independent service shop do a compression check and give the engine a once over, no matter what type of engine it is.

If you try to sell the motor it's worth nothing......basically, so if the boat and motor is priced for what the hull is worth alone, then you might make out.
