If it was me I would go for the 175 with the standard M2 gearcase. Both motors weigh 418lbs (190kg) but the 175 is around 10hp more. (The 150HO is a good 165hp). If you are looking to performance then overall the motors should be about the same because the M2 (175hp) gearcase is a little fatter & heavier duty. The gear ratio's are the same for both motors but the extra 10 horsepower should make it quicker over the 150HO. You may be able to raise the 175 a little higher as well because the water pickups are lower than the 150HO. The 150HO is prettier though but the 175 would be my choice. I have included the 2010 brochure below so you can check out the pictures & specs.
Specs are on page 38. Pictures on Page 20

Thank you for your kind words Guys. I just say it as I see it.
Now what I would consider to be the ULTIMATE 2.6 V6 would be a 175HO. It does not exist YET!! but it would consist of the 2.6 200 powerhead (actually around 192hp with the L2 (HO) gearcase. Now BRP would have a serious butt kicker motor.
On another note it is rumoured that the 2.6 powerhead may receive the variable exhaust which is featured in the V4 - 115, 115HO & 130hp E-Tecs as early as 2011. This motor, if the rumours are valid, could see over 210hp with mind bending mid range grunt. If fitted with the L2 (High Speed) gearcase may just prove to be the top of the heap in all areas for its size. WE live in hope.

From what I have heard is the 175 ETEC is pretty paltry for a 175. Now I havent run one personally but have heard from a few that have and just from some of those testimonies I would be suprised if there were hardly any distinguishable differences between the 150HO and 175. Take that info for what it is and it could be wrong.![]()
I would really like to see a performance sheet of the 2.6L 150HO, 175 and 200 on the same rig.

This info was confusing to me... I thought one reason to buy the 150HO was that the Lightning gearcase could be raised higher than the standard gearcase on 175!?!?

I was wondering the same Magnus... I thought the HO cases had the lower water pickups....![]()
They (all HO cases) are supposed to be lower than the standard magnum case. I wish BRP would have made them even lower
The M2 pickups are lower on the leading edge. But the case is wider with more resistance.
I will post pictures when I get home from work. in 9 hours or so. The Lightning is quicker but the Magnum can "possibly" run higher therefore reducing drag.
The 175 is pretty cool motor. The 200 is around 192hp "at the moment"

20" 175 does not use the M2 box, it uses the smaller diameter buillet S2 so it should not have too much more drag than the L2, but it is not shaped as well as the L2 nor does it have the lower water pickups.

Ok, just to check that I got this right: The gearcase on the 20" 175 probably has similar drag, but due to a better shape on the L2 case it could be possible to run a 150 HO higher, right?

S2 box is used on the V4 NOT THE V6.
More info in a few hours guys.

then the 150 HO can work at heights greater than 175?
Hi Alex
Well 've done the research with some help from Huey.
It is a very mixed bag regarding what gearcase goes with what motor, depending on shaft length & motor designation.
It seems that the 175hp E-Tec with the 20" shaft has the "O" designation gearcase & not the M2 as I thought. The M2 is the gearcase on the 25" model.
With that in mind & IF you have a 20" transom then you have only one choice in regard to ultra performance & that is the 150HO. It is a VERY STRONG motor & can be jacked higher than the "O" gearcase on the 175hp. There is a very interesting thread on Screamand fly, see below which I am sure you will be interested in. It is of a 150 20" with the "O" gearcase. Check it out below. Sorry for the confusion.
