Hot Rodding the Honda BF 150

Well, we decided to team up with one of the top Honda aftermarket race engine builders and tune the Honda BF 150 outboard. Here's how it happened, and what we are doing.

    Should be pretty interesting.

Article ends with the beginning of mods to the bottom end, with no testing results. Street Honda car motors are reputed to develop 500 H P without a blower, it would be kind of unusual to be passed by a Honda 150 while flat out with a 300 HP Mercury.

I thought the gearcases were weak on small hondas? I have one in the family and the dealer advised not to upgrade to a stainless prop, he said the aluminum would help save the gearcase.

The BF 150 gearcase is okay for a 150, it's not fragile, but we will be using a different gearcase. There will be a prototype of the engine in SEMA, at the Honda booth, but it will have a modded stock gearcase.

It's a good question, we are going all out on the prototype, but the goal was to have an aftermarket kit, or turnkey version available for a cost effective price, ie. less than a new 225. The goal is 225 to 250 at the prop, sub 470 Lbs. and affordable.
