There was a thread on here months back regarding the USA Bassin Classic in Kentucky in May. I was curious who might be going. I think we are going to make the trip down, and we'd like to coordinate with others that are going from our region.

I go visit my Mom every summer in RI and it is 16 1/2 hours from my house to hers. Kentucky Lake is 3 1/2 away from my home in Louisville. What ever you do , do not take your boats through the hills of West Virginia. Make your way to RT.80 in PA then come down through OH.

My son and I are going, probably with a caravan from Maine.
are you guys gonna drive straight through? We are trying to decide how we are gonna do it without depriving ourselves of sleep. Obviously we can take turns driving vs. sleeping, but we need to pre-fish. It would be great to see one of the new england guys dominate this tourney...
My partner and I are probobally driving striaght through! We will be there for about 5-6 days before touny to prefish...he went last year without me so he has the layout at least. It would be nice for a team up north to place well
We are going to stop somewhere halfway to get some shuteye. My son is too young to drive so it'll just be me. I think we are headed out the Saturday morning before the tourney. If anyone wants to tag along, give a shout.

Have anyone of you guys fished this lake before? I've read a bunch of reports, however most of em only talk about a few slabs here and there, but mostly small fish. How's the smallie population in there?
I have Never fished there before! My partner went last year and knows the general layout but he didn't find much for size. I have read there is a good population of smallmouth on mostly the East side of Kentucky lake (read shocking survey) LBL side. Makes sense it is the deeper side. I will not be going for the smallmouth though. I hope to get on the largies, if the weather is right the fishing should be great by all reports that time of year! Last year my partner said the water was way high and flooded and screwed up the bite. I am just hoping to have a good fish without too many problems. If I find out anything more specific I will pass it on

You guys are hitting the lake at a good time. If you are targeting smallmouth you will struggle. The largemouth population is much better and more predictable. Normally, it takes about 25lbs to win a one day tournament down here.

HELLO ..... anybody! Got my Lake maps (Atlantic Mapping) and my Navi platnium card for the Lowrance! Researching a couple new rods and reels to take also. Who else is slowly getting ready for this trip? I also want to get a good coat of Maguirs Flag Ship wax on the Cat before I leave
I've been talking to some of my teammates on staff with Venom Lures. From what I understand there are smallies, but the largemouth bite is what we are after. I think unless you find packs of 6+ lb smallies, I wouldn't waste your time. I'm curious when the spawn should be hitting down there...

I had already done the research on that, and posted it above in this post........Lets get this thing wrapped up for New England!
We will be going down from Maine. I went last year and you couldn't ask for a better tournament.
