I don't know about the Nashua river, but on the CT river when the river is high and muddy I always look out for culverts and streams that are pouring in water. These always have clearer water before the main river. Toss chartruse sassy shads and spinnerbaits in right where the clear water is entering in the river... and as far up as you can cast. Usually will bring about some real hot smallie action! Good luck![]()
Congrats on the new boat SteveI don't know if they'll have the tournament there sunday with the water running the way it is. I wouldn't launch on weds. TOO much current!!! It may recead enough by Sunday, but doubtfull.
BAD Info i gave you, sorry. I guess there was some guys who lauched from the North Nashua launch Sunday. Current was flying. Not sure how they did. I hope the tourney will be still held.

As I remember there are 2 launches. One was by the public works and dam, and the other was behind a housing area. The housing area launch-go to the left about 50 - 100 yards and fish the outside and get in behind that grassline and the shore. The public works launch, go left and into the cove area .We threw 5 inch black sluggos only. If the water is moving that swiftly I'd throw a HeavyCover Spinnerbait in that cove by the Public Works. In the three tourneys I fished there many years ago, the only person that beat me was my partnerHope it helps ya some, good luck and keep us posted on the results
Good to hear about waters I'm familiar with.
Steve, you're killing me!!!!! You taking your boat Sunday? It'll be funny seeing all these boats in a tourney on this small section of river.
Thanks Guys. Ill give those areas a try Jazz. Dave. we probably will be fishing out of my partners boat sunday. You going?. It sure is going to fish small with all the boats I hear are going.
Yeah, I'll be there. My boat isn't ready yet. Taking my partner's boat. I stopped by both launch's this afternoon. We'll be fine. Those friends of mine made it sound like the river was at a all time high. I've fished it with alot more current than that. ...We'll either have a load or get skunked!!!This river is tough with alot of boats on it and alot of guys have been prefishing. What's with this Stateline dealer?
Look forward to seeing you there Dave. I dont have all the details yet with Stateline.. Im glad Ranger is getting more representation in this region though. Should be good for us guys in New England.
Morning b8caster,
I had a great time late in the day on that section of river in a couple of places. Up river where the water splits in 2 directions as it comes through the narrow section. The water is rushing the fastest at this spot. There is a backwater pool on the south side right there(opposite from the rod and gun club). That "cove" worked well in the afternoon. Used a #7 floating rapala. Water temp that day was 52 though. My friend had good luck all the way up fishing the island. Might be moving quite fast now. A place to "kill" off the last few minutes before the weigh in is across the way in the pocket that you can't get your boat in. I pitched in and lifted out one keeper with only a couple of minutes to spare.
I hope this info is helpful. Who's holding the T?
Mac
Thanks Mac. Bubba Bassin is having the tournament. No matter what at least will get to see a lot of friends after such a long winter. Ill post again after the tourny.
Are you a bum like me and stuck working today?
Well the tournament was held on a great day but the fishing was brutal. Water level was down about 3 feet since Wednesday.Took my partner and I all day to put the 4 fish limit into our livewell but in the end it was enough to win. We caught all 4 of our fish in the same backwater by pitching black and blue Lil Hustler jigs with super pork trailers into any log, tree, or bush and working it slow. I believe ours was the only limit and thats how tough it was. Most teams had one or two fish so I guess we were very lucky to catch what we did. Thanks again for the advice guys![]()
Great Job Steve!!!!I watched you stinker's in that cove almost all day
I thought we were being smart staying deep with the water dropping as fast as it did. DAM RIVER.

I thought we had it tough untill I talked to Jean and Kurt. I felt alittle better . oh well,,,,,,,,,See you at Winnie.
Glad to hear about your success. How much weight did you end up with? I forgot to mention the big rise and drop in water levels sorry about that.
Take care
Mac
We had 10.20 lbs but the scale was very generous that day I will addI wasnt sure whether the fish would still be there with the falling water or not but there were a few still moving up with the warm temperatures. You going to Big Island Pond next week Dave?
I won't be there. I'll be out both days but not on Big Island. I've never fished it. Word on the street is that ice on Winnie MAY be out by Saturday. I doubt it, but if it is, or close too it I'll be there. I have a Tourney on Northwood on sunday.
Dave, when you launch at Northwood there's a little stream on your left as you head to open water. It's maybe 50 - 100 yards on the left. At this time of the yerar fish move in and out of that all day !! You won't see anything then all of a sudden it looks like every fish in the lake is swimmin by ! The trick to our old club was to draw number 1 and wait on them. Keep that in mind ! If no one knows about this- I would definately save the last hour and a half to 2 hours for there. Tip was provided to me by Gary Clark of Northern Bass many years ago- it works![]()
Thanks Jazz, Will do.![]()
