    Long Pond in Lakeville, MA

Fished Long Pond today. Got out at 9am, put it back on the trailer at around 5:30pm. Caught about 30 bass, two around 6 pounds each, 5 12+ inch crappie, and a couple yellow perch. Every one came from what looked like a feeder stream on the northwest side of the lake that looked to be a little flooded, and the water was significantly warmer(53 degrees). I used a baby bass colored Storm Wiggle Wart and a Yozuri 3 inch minnow. Lots of baitfish, and the bass were keying on them.

Too bad the lakes up here are still frozen. It was over 2 hours to get there, and with gas prices, I can't afford to make that trip very often.

NICE Leo... yeah the water is flowing real good through there from the rain and if it rains this weekend it'll be flowing alot faster. Next time you're coming down this way let us know.. I know Dillweed lives VERY close to Long Pond and is very eager to get his new boat wet and my Stratos should be in the water in two weeks or so. I'm actually thinking after reading your report that I'm going to drop my canoe in the river this Sunday.. I didn't realize the water was that warm!

Just so you know, I got the temperature from the aquarium thermometer I use, since I don't have a transducer with the ability to get a temp. It may or may not be 100% accurate. I can tell you that it was reading 45 degrees by the launch, and the 53 degrees at that stream, so I could only figure it was the warm runoff coming in, coupled with the dark/muck bottom in the area.

Good luck when you go out.

Were those the only two baits you tried or the only two you got bites on? Did you go up into the river at all?

I threw a spinnerbait, a jig, a tube, and a carolina rig, didn't even get a nibble. As for going up the river, I went as far as my 20 foot boat would take me.

LOL.... I've never tried it in a big boat but a few years ago I stuffed my 16' all the up to the road and got yelled at over a pa speaker from a water dept truck that I was too close to the road (other side of road is Tauton water supply resevoir). Leo I sent you an im.. did you get it?

Got it WAAAAAY up in the Northern corner in the river. Don't know if you can squish a big boat up there (I didn't go to the opening to see how big it was right now). I know once the water level drops and the plants start going you have to be real good or not mind brush marks on your boat to get it in there. We just dropped the canoe in there today.

Re: Long Pond in Lakeville, MA (JerryT)

well bring it on over.. I'd be glad to show you where they are.. just bring some HD gear.. .none of the 8lb spinning gear my partner tried to use (did I mention he lost 3 of my spinnerbaits in the process?). Why does everyone look at me funny when they see me rods spooled with 20lb XT? LOL

Jerry I've been home since Jan. from my knee operation.. and I'll stil be around for a few more months (blood clot complications). Wait til I get my Stratos in the water then I'll post more pics :)

Re: Long Pond in Lakeville, MA (JerryT)

I went out today and only got a couple of pickerel.. was kinda rough in the canoe by myself as the wind kicked up blowing me around as I tried to fish. Sunday I had 6 bass in the canoe.. with nothing smaller than 2+ pounds. I also lost one that would have gone bigger than the one in the pic! It's a tough area with alot of flooded brush so it makes it hard to find the main channel right now I'll post a pic later.
