Can someone help with a check engine alarm

I know I am going to get in trouble but I don't have my model # handy but my motor is a 2000 Johnson 225 HO. I was out today and the motor ran great to the first spot, then I get ready to move and I fire it up and the check engine light comes on and long steady beep from the alarm. Motor is idling fine, good wp and blowing smoke so i know it is getting oil. I shut it off and cranked it a couple of times and continued to do the same. Then I cranked it and it quit. I continued fishing and only ran a couple of times and the light would go off after about 2-3 minutes of running. Last crank it did not come on. Any idea what would cause this or where should I start looking? Motor ran great all day just a pesky alarm. Any ideas????

Make sure your primer bulb is pumped up solid and if you have a fuel selector switch that it is fully pointing in the proper direction.

Let us know the Check usually post for a fuel starvation issue.

This may not have anything to do with your problem, but it may help.
    I'm running a 07 E-TEC e150dplsu model # 05189984.
My first year the warning lights and alarm would ring in and shut
the engine down to limp mode (1300 rpm) I would shut off the key
wait 30 seconds and restart and engine ran fine.Had a brand new battery
didn't think that was the problem but it was. It was hooked up to the
wing nuts and wasn't staying tight. My battery also had the old style post
I went to my local hardware store bought old style clamps rewired my battery
and to make a long story short my E-TEC has run fine since then
morel of the story is don't let your nuts get loose or spend $3 and fix the problem.

Had her out again today and same issue. Bulb pumped up hard and aside from the pesky alarm and the check engine light staying on it ran just fine. Should I go ahead and replace the fuel line and bulb and see if that solves the problem?

It's a carb motor no ECU/EMM. Check your battery voltage too.

Voltage was good battery is only a couple months old and I had just charged it the night before. Only thing I know to do is to remove the fuel line and bulb and check it from the tank to the motor and then see if it persists. What do you guys think or is there some other trick to deciphering what each alarm means.

Re: Can someone help with a check engine alarm (alabamaangler80)

Pretty simple on a carb motor, Low oil, No Oil, Overheat, Check engine. The first 3 are self explanatory. The Check engine like said earlier usually is set by a fuel delivery problem and comes on over 4500 RPM. It could be a defective Vacuum switch that monitors the fuel flow. Seeing it is a carb motor you have no onboard computer that monitors anything so you have no codes to be retrieved.

Re: Can someone help with a check engine alarm (ChampioNman)

I have a 98 Johnson 150 ficht which the check engine light comes and goes, the code is water in fuel although after months of diagnosing I suspect an electrical fault I was going to replace the battery, it's about 4 years old, but I leave it on trickle charge when the boat is not being used and she starts instantly every time, voltmeter shows about 12.2v at anchor and about 14v at cruise speed do you think the battery should be replaced? Sorry if I'm hijacking this.
    cheers

Mine did the same thing this past fall. It was fuel delivery problem. Replaced the fuel filter and has ran fine ever since.

Re: Can someone help with a check engine alarm (stratosboat1)

I have replaced the on board filter and the transom filter recently, although it is pretty random it does seem to be more likely to sound off at low revs e.g. you can run all day without a note but just as you throttle back returning to the ramp it usually barks at you, I was thinking an electrical fault would possibly do that, didn't think fuel pressure would be an issue at low revs- am I right here or wrong?
