    Thermostats

You guys know if the thermostat assembly comes with new gasket and pressure relief valves, springs, etc... Or do i need to order all the small parts too. I would like to replace all the stuff under the t-stat cover.

    This is for a 90 e150stlesb.

    Thanks.

Each item is separate so order everything between the cover and seat.

It will only take a few minutes to change out the thermostats. I changed mine a few weeks ago, and it didn't take long.

    Well,
Too my surprise there where no t-stats. Looks like the last mech left them out. Here in SE Texas, they may not be needed? We decided to leave them out for now, to enable some trouble shooting 1 step at a time. I did replace poppett/pressure relief parts.

We have been getting a high temp alarm above 35 mph, below that no problem. Good tell-tale stream. Decided to put pressure gauge on motor. The only place I can find is to tee into the tell-tale. When I did this on a mercury it did not give a correct reading. I am getting 2-3 idle, 8-9 wot.

Replaced impeller, found last mech had pinched rubber o-ring on impeller housing allowing a leak. After new impeller, verified no leaks on muffs with lu in stand, we still get same pressure readings. However, the over temp alarm did not sound @ wot. So it looks like we got 1 issue resolved.

Verified water flow out of both t-stat locations. Port side might have a little more flow.

Will not having t-stats create the lower water pressure, or is that pressure normal for being tied into the tell tale?

    Thanks for any help.

The engine will not reach operating temperature without the t-stats, also the pressure will build up better with them in there.

Time to pull the heads and replace the water deflector pins in the cooling/water passages in the head. You'll need two head gaskets and 12 deflector pins for the passages. They come in packs of 6 but you need only 5 per side.

He has had those water deflectors replaced several years ago, and I figured they may need it again. You would not happen to have the torque specs/ bolt pattern for the heads do you?
