From what I have read, it's a relatively reliable motor. It it will eat like no other if you get on it, but man, she'll haul the mail to a sweet tune!

LOL. I had an '89 200 Johnson. Will it get any better gas mileage than that one? That motor seemed to be a good one. Still going strong today.

    I wouldn't bank on it.

That 200 wasn't all that good on gas. They didn't improve effiency at all from '89 to '99?

The 225HO Johnsons I think were made from 1999-2001 and are supposedly a 240hp motor. I rode in a Triton with one and they are some running motors.

I was looking at a 2001 225 a few a little while back (I'm pretty sure that's what I was looking at... but it's been awhile). When I was collecting my information, the general consensus was: It's extremely fast and powerful, pretty reliable, some said theirs started best when they had run it for a while and others said they couldn't start theirs after running if for a while (not sure what you want to do with that information). In the end, I was advised by a friend not to switch from and EFI to a carbed engine... That's why I didn't move on the one I was looking at... otherwise I would have. (finally got mine good and dialed in...)

The old Carb motors are very reliable. They just have your typical carb manners and issues.
