Re: Crankbaits in South florida (bassknight)

At times they can be killer in canals. One of my favorites is taking my shaky head setup ( 7ft med spinning rod with 8lb Berkly fluorocarbon) shad raps and original floating rapalas in the Margate canals off of C-14. Some of my first memories of catching bass

Crankbaits will work IF you can find an area without too much grass. Like Lou said, traps can be your friend. The reason a trap is more effective down here is that A) it doesn't dig into the weedy bottoms if you keep your rod high, and B) you can "rip" a trap out of the grass much easier than a lipped crank (highly effective tactic).

    Good luck!

I have had great success with them, Holiday park, sawgrass and most of the everglades run a D10 and grind the bottom in the canals also you can fish Holy lands with a D22 with a 2 ounce weight carolina style and florucarbon the big lakes and catch some monsters.
Okeechobee Shallow runners and Rattle Traps, just Rip them through the grass, it take time and is agrevating but can produce.
