97 ficht 150 wont idle

hello BBC...

I have a 97 ficht 150 that wont idle....the motor was running fine yesterday I flushed the motor she cranked first turn of the key and idled fine. Today when i dropped the boat in the water she started as usual and idled around the ramp for a few mins normal then stalled. Now she will only start with heavy amounts of throttle input and wont run if you let off the gas.

The boat has a brand new batt only 2 days old.
new plugs today gapped at 28 and indexed in" did not fix problem"
new fuel filter and no water in gas

motor revs out good just seems liked some one flipped a switch and now she wont idle!

Sure you have your orange High tension leads on correctly? Orange/blue top 2 cylinders, orange middle two orange/green bottom two. Check your plug wires also for proper positioning.

Check for compression and spark on all cylinders while cranking

I only pulled one wire off at the time so i don't think the firing order is out of wack.

And the motor runs strong as long it is at 3000 rpm or so.

I will check the high tension leads as well but i also have not messed anything under the cover and the motor was running well yesterday.

I will be monday afternoon before i can do a spark and compression test.

Just checked the high tension wires are all correct...Firing order is also correct.

check charging system at idle, if it won't idle bring the rpms up just enough so it will run and check voltage slowly bring it down and watch voltage

I work 24 hour shifts so i cant check that till Monday...If the charging system was not up to snuff wouldn't the motor just run off the batt till the voltage got to low...Just like a truck will?

to give you a little more back round on this boat it has been stored for many years..When i bought it i pulled the tank and cleaned it put all new filter's boat was running good till yesterday.

It also seems like it is missing at low RPM's and thats why it wont idle

Your motor has 2 electrical systems plus a separate regulator. There is the 12 volt system for the electric fuel pump and to charge your battery, then there is the 24 volt system which operates the ignition and the fuel injectors, plus the computer systems. If a regulator is bad or a stator is weak, there is not enough current to run the 24 volt system for the injectors and ignition at low rpms and the motor quits.

I understand....what kinda of out put should I expect from the stator?

the only place I could find to test the 24v was right under the computer on the drivers side of the boat. there are 2 wires on this junction a white and red.. While running i make 15.5 -16 at this stud but can get a good reading at the motor slows down before it dies.


Also it is charging the batt at 13.1.13.6 depending on rpm

Also i did the lift pump check...Pull off the two pulse lines "the ones with zip ties on them right?" and pump the ball i did not see fuel in the lines nor did any come out when i pump the ball..

And i seem to have some oil residue in the intakes of the bottom 4 cyl's nothing major but the bottom two are worse

No I have not I have to go get a fitting for my gauge...

I will do that asap.

I also have the ficht software on the way so i can properly check engine voltage and all other engine functions.

When i got this boat I was told it only had about 30 hours on the motor then was stored for the remainder of it's life till i got her.

I will post real hours when i get the software!

Those numbers look good. Whatever you did prior to the problem check it. If it was running fine before you did something then chances are you induced a problem. Happens all the time.

I did not do anything...I know it must be something small and stupid...the boat has not changed in 2 weeks.. and was running good for that time.I guess i can check all the fuel lines again but the ball stays pretty hard and the lift pump test was good!

I should have the software soon so hopefully that will shed some light on my problems!

Anyone else got some ideas?

Update..The high pressure fuel pump was stuck..and after a little seafoam deep creep and some compressed air she was running fine again...

I did have 1 intermitten code 13 low throttle position sensor reading.

I played with the sensor a little and it turned into a hard code.

I am going to water test the boat this weekend and report back...I was told that hard codes can only be cleared by the ECU when it no longer detects the problme correct?

126 total hours 81% of that run time is 0 to 1000 rpm range!!!!!

Thanks for the help I will go back through the manual and clear the hard code I am sure I caused the hard code from messing with the sensor.

I read through this and was ready to post that when it said the pump was out. Had the same issue on my 97
