I have a '91 Evinrude 150 Intruder. Thermostats (one) were sticking open.Bought new ones but they wern't same as my old ones.Installed them with the shiny(metal) side out?.Pretty sure that this is right.Ran it on the hose with no alarms and the top of the heads got hot but I could still put my hands on them.
Do you remember what the part number was that you installed? If you have a thermostick or an IR temp gun 140-160 is good.
Original 1991 t'stas were black and the newer ones are longer and grey colored.
Your springs should be red, not silver and the plastic caps should have 2 hex heads on them. One for a 13/16" sparkplug socket and a larger 1 1/2" hex. If you have the original single hex cap, replace it.
If you don't have these items, order them from a 1996 model.
