    Javelin Trailer Question

    Hey,

    Here's the deal. I have a 1999 Renegade 19. The front roller assembly is stupid! The arm the roller is on moves up and down and has a spring on it. It sucks.

    The 2000 and newer trailer have a fixed from roller arm and assembly on it. Much better setup.

    The question is, has anyone ever changed the roller and crank assembly on their Javelin trailer to the newer style? I can't tell if anything else about the trailers are different.

    If you don't know what I'm talking about I can post some pictures.

    I took mine and lowered it about a half an inch from the top most position and welded it solid into place works great and was cheap.. Left me know and I can help you in any way possible.

    thats there to make sure you pull the booat all the way up on the trailer. If its up all the way it wont move. Safety feature.

    Thankfully Javelin was looking out for my safety...unfortunately the never considered the pain they cause to my neck.

    Zero problems and we should have the same trailer because mine is a 99 R19. The arm on mine only moves a small amount. If your arm is falling down see if you can shorten the spring that way it has more tension.

    I knew a guy with a similar problem and he put a couple spot welds on the arm so it wont move.

    The bad thing with it moving up and down is if you are loading on a steep ramp you will hit the front bow on it. Thats why I welded mine up solid. Safety was not the issue the design was to take the pressure off of the bunk boards up front.

    The main issue that I have is that when I power load the boat always rolls back because of the lifting action. I also find that a some ramps the roller will end up in the wrong spot and I have to push the boat back off and move the roller around and then crank it up. I just thinking it should be easier and better.

    I always wondered why it was that way. You can see that the boat is lifted off the bunks in the front. I would think that might be hard on the boat to be suspended like that. I also think the pivot arms on my trailer are bend a little so that requires me to crank the boat a little higher then normal.

    Can anyone tell me if there is a reason to have the boat that high, other then the bunk thing? I really think I'm going to modify the trailer but I don't want to do any damage to my boat or trailer. I'm thinking like someone else mentioned, I will weld that roller in place and drop the whole thing down a little. I was also thinking I might try and find the roller parts from a 2000 and newer and try and put them on my trailer.

    You could be putting yoour trailer to deep in to the water too. I leave mine with about 2 inches of the fender well out of the water and it hits perfect now.

    You are exactly right!

    I here complaints on these set ups but I love mine and would not change it for nothing. The trick is to find the sweet spot to back the trailer into the water, mine is to leave 3'' of the back roller out of the water doesn't matter if it is a steep or shallow ramp.
    Springs can be weak letting it hang down to far, roller positioned wrong or the bunks are not adjusted correctly on the trailer!

    The spring was put in so you wouldn't bust the TM when dumping it in the water I dealt with mine, but didn't have many issues at all with it. Angle of the ramp and how far you backed in were the 2 keys to making it work.

    Anybody have an idea on how long the spring is supposed to be, or how far the roller is supposed to hang under tension? When I got mine the spring was all stretched out and the previous owner didn't even use it. I clipped the spring to give it more tension but now it sits too high and I have to crank my boat up everytime to make sure the roller in place.
