faststrike or ficht?

I'm in the market for a fish/ski boat. Currently on my list is a 2000 Champion 190SX with a 2000 150 Ficht Evinrude and a 1998 Champion 190SX with a 1998 Johnson 175 Faststrike. They are basically the same price. Based upon the nightmares I've read on the ficht motors, I assume I'm better off with the Johnson Faststrike???? Thoughts?

from everything I've read I personally would run away from the Ficht even if they had the upgrades done to the motor. If you have the model and serial number post it, guru's on here can do a history check for you.

what ever you buy, have a compression test done on it before you turn over your money...

I will most certainly have a local shop check the compression and leakdown before I buy. Just looking for general thoughts on the reliability long term between the two assuming both are currently in good condition.

Would run from the Fix, I mean Ficht. I had a 1999 and lost 2 power heads. That 2000 model I believe was still an OMC product. The Bom ones were better. Don't even think about it. That motor put OMC under. Faststrike!

Faststike My 98 went ten years with nothing but plugs, oil, and gas. Had a VRO go last year. Dads 98 Ficht blew 2 power heads in less than five years.

I would recommend a leak test and compression as well for both motors. FYI.....I have a 2000 Ficht 225 hp and I have had absolutely nothing go wrong with the motor for the past 9 years. I know they had major issues with the earlier versions, but I think they worked them out at the time of the end game for OMC. Based on year both were built I would lean toward the FastStrike....very strong and dependable motors!

Your Ficht was a 225. They were more dependable than the 150. The worst one made was the 150 HP. Again Fast Strike.
