    composite ?

I was reading the post about the composite question on the javalin 400 . My question is how do you tell weather or not it is wood or composite. There is a 1998 400 DC 20ft for sale near me for a good price with a johnson 200 venom what should I be looking for in the wood verses composite department? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving

I could be mistaken, but I believe Javelin went all composite with the Renegade series in 1999. The 400 is an awesome boat though.

I had a 1998 389 that was all composite. Not sure if the 400 was though. Very good boat.

The 400's went all composite in 97, the 389's changed over in 98.

My 97 400 still has wood. Just had the transom replaced about two months ago. I'm pretty sure Stratos went all composite in 98 but I thought the Javs didnt change until the Renegades. I guess 98 would be the magic year for all of them.

I know that you could order a 97 400 as composite but it may have been special order that year and not standard. Too it may have been they moved to composite sometime during the production year that year. It was only available on the 400 series for 97. In 98 the 409's, 400's and 389's were standard as composite but I do not remember about the 379's.
I have the 96 and 98 catalogs here in my office. I think I may still have a 97 catalog somewhere at the house. I will double check it and see if shows anything about the composite being offered.
If I remember right, Stratos was a year ahead of Javelin in going composite on their models. They always put the good stuff into Stratos production ahead of the Javelins back then.

Man I would love to see on of those old catalogs. I used to have some Stratos catalogs from the mid 90s, I don't know what ever happened to those things.

I sure wish the original owner of my boat would have ordered the all composite, sure would have saved me some $$$. The crazy thing is that my boat is in excellent shape, that's the only reason I sold my 05 Stratos to buy it. I wanted another 400 so bad I couldn't stand it. I still haven't been able to figure out where the water was getting into it. Oh well I guess I'm good to go for a few more years.

    ROLL TIDE!!

That 400 hull was an awesome design. I would love to find one of the 98 400's that had been mothballed somewhere. I think Alan Stinson actually designed that hull but that was so long ago I'm not sure that I am remembering that correctly.

    I know a guy that owns a 400 with a 225pro xs. It is a 78-79 mph boat easy.
