    GasGauge quit working?

Need some help guys, My gas gauge has quit before but all I've had to do in the past was fill the tank and trailer over a couple of bumps And the float would unstick and go back to working. That is not working this time. I've checked my breakers, they are all ok. Is there a fuse behind the switch panel? What are my possible culprits and fixes? Almost forgot. I've got an 03' 201 Pro Xl.

Maybe the float stuck in the tank. Had to change one out on a Ranger I had one time.

If it were to happen on my boat, I would check for power at the gauge & or dual selector switch. If so, I'd pull the seats & check at the sending unit for power. If I had power there, I would ground wire from sending unit & if gauge moved the float would be bad.

    Couple things first

    1. What position is the guage stuck in. Most of the time if the gauge is pegged full or past full and does not return to empty when the key is off is a tale tale sign that the gauge itself is bad.
    2. If the gauge is pegged and then returns to empty when the key is off could be wire issue or bad float.
    3. Check the power and ground on the back of the gauge.
    4. Ohm out the float if possible.

The guage is stuck on dead empty. does not move at all when the key is switched on.

mine did the same thing, gauge showed E and never moved. On mine it was a ground wire that had come loose back at the battery. I would say check all your connections. Doesn't sound like the gauge is getting any juice

actually if it's bumping loose that fixes it then the floats no good. I know on older models they used cork as a float. I recently redid my float and my dads for 15 bucks each. cheap fix and easy to do.

I found the cause. A ground wire on the battery had lost connection with the ring connector. But the insulation was still holding it together. Just replaced with a new ring connector and it works fine. Thanks for all the tips.
