Replacing steering cables and hotfoot throttle cable on a 389 Javelin

Anyone know the length of the Hotfoot cable? Anyone have any suggestions on what brand I should use to replace the steering cables? I have a Johnson 175 Faststrike. How much trouble is it to do it myself?

    Thanks

I tackled the steering cables on a 389 Javelin a long time ago. It is a PAIN. Pulling the new cables back through that hull is tough. If you are going to go through the trouble with the steering cables, I suggest going back with Hydraulic Steering. My first set of cables lasted a couple of years. The second set lasted about the same. The second time they got stiff, I went Hydraulic and it made me wish that I had gone that way the first time.

Hydraulic steering is very easy to install. The only part where you will need some help is during the bleeding process. That part is hard to do by yourself.

    Don't know about the hotfoot.

I just installed a Hot Foot on my 389 with a 175 Johnson and used a 15' cable and it worked perfect. Hope this helps!

Teleflex brand throttle cable. You can buy them from Bass Pro, Cabellas, Ebay, etc. I found Ebay to be the cheapest.

I replaced my steering on a javelin 379 back in the winter and went with hydraulic steering. I went with the Uflex system, just as good as seastar and doesnt cost as much. I have installed about 6 more uflex systems for people and have had zero issues.
