    1997 Javelin?

I have found a 97 Javelin for sale not sure yet of the model but it is a 19' with a 200 Evinrude vindicator on it. From my understanding is that these boats were part wood/part composite constructed. Exactly how much was wood and what parts are wood so I know were I need to check for strength? I believe the price is right around $9,500/obo so I know I can get them talked down some. Whats a good price to pay for this boat? Were they a decent boat speed, handling, and stability wise?

    Re: 1997 Javelin? (bassin_man)

Can you give more info on the boat...19' could be a Javelin 389 which was 18' 9"long and only rated for 175 HP or It could be a Javelin 400 which was well over 19' something like 20'6"? and rated for 225HP.

There was not a True 19 Javelin made in 97. There would be some price difference between the 389 and 400 so we need to know which boat you are asking about.

Unfortunately I can't. It is listed as being a 19' Javelin with a 200 Vindicator. Doesn't mention the model. I tried getting ahold of the seller for that reason. Hopefully the seller will get back to me.

With a 200 on it I bet its a 400. It is a great boat as long as its been taken care of.
Let us know what model it is when you find out.

    Re: 1997 Javelin? (ep72)

409 or 400.....I paid 9900 for my 97 with a 225 vindicator on it. The 400 hull is faster...

Mine was immaculate but had a single axle trailer that cost me some problems. I dont think my moter has 300 hours on it as clean as everything is and my compression numbers are all dead on eachother except 1 of them which is like 3 lbs different.

I love the boat it does just shy of 58 here at 5400 RPMS and im like 5k ABSL....I will get some sea level numbers next week and run it to 5900 ish.

Good luck I have never heard a bad thing about Javelins..

If thats the case I wish it had the 225 on it. What kind of speeds do you think it would be able to run with a 200?

coloradoman25, What kind of problems did you have with the single axle trailer? Also how did that vindicator treat you? I know the fichts had problems but never heard much about the vindicator. Have you ran into any soft spots that you suggest I pay particular attention to if I take a look at the boat?

My old 400 would hit low 70's with a venom 200. It just depends on the condition of the boat and motor, and set up as far as top end speed goes.

    Re: 1997 Javelin? (ep72)

Take into account i am at 5000ABSL here so it takes a ton of power away.

The single axle is just too small of a trailer for that boat I have heard of MANY failures due to the poor weight distribution etc.

I lost 2 bearings last season...I now have a tandem

The vindicator seems great I will have some real workd sea level numbers next week though I dont have but a pair of 4 blades to run so I have no idea what it will run on a good 3 with the perfect set up. If nothing I will be in the balll park. I will keep you posted.

a 225 here is around the horsepower of a 175 elswhere.

Does Stratos handle javelin related questions through their website or not? The main thing I'm worried about in this boat is the wood and figured they could probably point me in the direction of what is wood constructed and what is composite constructed.

Originally I was looking at an 00-03 boat but if this one is in good condition I'm thinking it will be just fine for my first bass boat? I have a jon boat and older tri-hull but this would be my first bass boat.

    Re: 1997 Javelin? (bassin_man)

I had a 400SDC with Evinrude 200 carb in the same year model. I ran about 66-68gps with tournament load and about 70 with just me.I always thought I could do a little more with some tweaking, but I was happy with it. The boat is 19ft 10in and handles rough water great and I sold mine about 4 years ago for $11k, so the price seems about right for that boat. As for wood I am not sure, mine said it was a composite hull, so that leaves the transom and the top decks that I am not sure about. So I would check to see how much the boat has stayed out side and ask if it has hit anything with the motor on plane. Just my 2 cents, but I know there are some people who know alot more than me about this model and year.

    Re: 1997 Javelin? (Mike1)

Got some more info its a 400SE. Has a flasher at the console and a Lowrance X 57 up front. Was told it has a 65# Minn Kota but forgot to ask the model. Also forgot to ask about the batteries as far as age goes. I was told that everything else such as motor, floor, transom, livewell, etc checks out. Said there was a few natural war bruises such as a few chips, etc. The carpet is a little worn which I can handle and the seats are cracking a little bit. Also the gel coat is faded which once again doesn't really necessarily bother me to the point of not getting the boat. Whats a good price to go with if this information is correct?

    Re: 1997 Javelin? (bassin_man)

Going by your description it'll need carpet, upolstry work, some elbow grease in the shine dept., probably updated electronics. Its value depends how bad you want it, and how much your willing to put in it. With that said IMHO $7500.00-$8000.00 tops. Thats if the 200 checks out good. Hope that helps ya.

As reference i sold my95 model jav 400-200 venom back in 2002 for 10500.00 and it was in top shape.

Thats what I'm thinking. I have found a couple other boats that are around 99-00 for only a few grand more that I am looking at possibly going with instead. Only problem is they are definitely farther away than this boat.
