Looking at buying a 94 201 pro xl with 225 evinrude. tandem axle trailer. I have jeep wrangler xl with a 6 cykinder. the max towing weight is like 3,000 lbs. Does anyone know the weight of the whole combo? or if the jeep will pull it?

1800+ for the hull (probably closer to 2000 since it's that old--water seeps into them), 600+ for motor and all rigging, 500+ for the trailer. Then you have all of your stuff, fuel, etc. Now, with that said, will the Jeep pull it? Yeah. Will it do it very safely? Not very far.

he's right, but i'd look at a smaller boat if i was towing with a jeep.

Had a ford explorer (V6) and the transmission went out pulling my 96 201. Did not do a good job pulling the boat either.I would get a smaller boat or a truck/SUV that has the towing capacity.

I am guessing you have a 5 speed in it. I think the pansy tow rating is because of the week clutch they put in them, I think with the auto the tow rating is a bit more. That said a 201 is a pretty good sized boat, and I would want something bigger than a jeep to pull it. But it all depends on how far you are going to pull it, under 30 miles it will last a little while but I would either look for a smaller boat or plan on getting a bigger vehicle soon.
on the net the xl says its rated for 3500lbs. I would not tow that boat with that Jeep longer than a few miles

What everyone else says.... the REAL test would be pulling that rig out of a steep ramp. Even if you lock it in 4WD, you're bound for clutch problems. Just a matter of time.

i tow a 95- 201 with a 04 f 250 with a 5.4 v-8. these boats are very heavy pigs. it feels like i am towing an apartment building. than again i had a couple of allisons in the past. and i want another one. my boat is for sale 95 stratos 201 pro xl. with a 200 merc on the back.
I tow my 409 97 Javelin with a 5 cylinder Colorado....
Highly modified truck to tow it though..
Bigger breaks and more ponies and im towing at 5500-7500 above sea level..
It can be done but in a jeep its not gonna be comofortable with that short wheel base....
I have a 4WD Tacoma with the 3.4 V6 in it (5 speed). My boat is a 1995 201XL with a 200 Evinrude Vindicator. I've been pulling my boat all over the state fishing different lakes. I pretty much take my time and try not to horse it. Pulling out of the water doesn't bother me much either when locked into 4 wheel Low.
I would be worried about that boat pulling my jeep DOWN the very steep ramp, with all 4 jeep tires locked up.![]()
